Mike McKee (99) scored the 250cc B class victory at Trail-Way Speedway.

couldn't get a break in traffic and had to settle

Third ove rall went to the lightweight machine of
Mike Keefe. Bobby Peters four-stro ke found the
traction consis tent enou gh to take fourth overall
and second in the lightweigh t d ivision.
Eric Kcnsey ran away wi th the smooth tire
race o n h is Rotax w ith Kenny Arnold on h is
Bultaco ta king second ove rall. Arnold ha d to
wo rk his way aroun d Mar k Kukasky befo re taking up the chase for Kensey. Kerry Kubena also
passed Kukasky as they lap ped slowe r traffic,
dropping Kukasky to third in the Knobby Light
class and fifth overall Cha rlie Italia topped the
Yout hdass.

Deever delivers at LACRMX

Jimm ie Deever did it the ha rd way, coming from
the back of the pack to score two convi nci ng
wi ns in the 250cc No vice cla ss a t the seco nd
ro und of Ca liforn ia Racing Clu b's 16th an nu al
Tri Race Series at Los Ang eles County Raceway.
Dann y Woodard timed the gate perfectly to
lead Chu ck Kober and Jami e Young in the first
moto. Deeve r was last, but that did n't last long
as he started pickin g off riders .
" I got a bad start. I don 't howe a very good
rea r tire and I was slid ing all ove r. I got sick of
stayi ng in the back a nd said, 'I've got to get to
the front. :" Deeve r said .

And to the front he went. By the th ird lap ,
only leader Wooda rd stood in his way. Deever
started to zero in on Wooda rd, then was handed
the lead w he n Wood a rd pulled off the track
with p rob lems. Dan King was follow ing Deever
up thro ug h the field and inher ite the runnerd
up positi on where he wou ld stay until the finish.
Young held on for th ird over Kober.

was in the back o f th e pa ck. King stayed ou t
fro n t for a cou p le of laps be fore slip p ing and
going do wn . Kobe r n o w ha d th e lead w ith
Wooda rd d ogg ing him in eve ry turn tryi ng to
ta ke it aw ay . Kin g had recover ed q uickly in
th ir d a h ea d o f a c ha rg ing Deeve r . It soo n
beca me a four-ri d er ba tt le fo r the lea d wit h
Deeve r coming out on top, go ing from fourth to
first wit h in a lap. With no one in front of him,
Deever stre tched his lead to ten se
cond s by the
checkered flag.
" I d id n't get a good star t again, and it was
real d usty a nd I could n' t see. I was in the back
for about thr ee or four laps and told myself l'got
to get going again," Deevcr said . "To wards the
end of the moto those gu ys were gett ing tired,
and I wa s jus t starting to come on."
Woodard pull ed a way from Kober a nd King
to finish second. King was in Kober's shado w all
the way to the wire for fourth p lace, which was
good enough for seco nd overall.
Deev er also do m ina ted bo th 125cc Nov ice
motos to go four-fo r-four o n th e day. C hris
Yeager finished a d istant second both times ou t
ahead of Tony Green.
