Stogsd ill wen t on to open up a 1()'bike lead at the finish line followed by Ken Maynard, who held off a last lap cha rge by Sam Lowe. Lowe wa s followed across the finish line by Wolf and Jeff Tatlerson. Travis Burnel l put his Yamaha into the early lead and stretched it out to a quarter-lap lead for the win in the 125cc class. The start of the 80cc feature saw an instan t red flag as Jason Spu rrier flip ped his bike on the s ta rling line . Sp u rrier was unable 10 ma ke the restart. Cory Roth was pressured by Travis Burnett for the entire 10 laps but held on for the win. Mark Fehring got the ear ly lead in Ihe 50cc feature and held it for the first five laps before falling off in tum two. Jeffrey Leeke motored on 10 the win. Another double for McBride at Champion Speedway By Larry McBride OWEGO NY, SEPT.5 , A large conting en t of riders invaded Owego's Champ ion Speedway Sunday night with riders from as far away as Kentucky, and Canada. The influx o f riders, however, d idn't change the end resu lts as Lenny McBride mad e carbon copy victones of the previous week's in Handicap and Scratch main eve nts. The six lap Ha ndicap main even t consisted of 20, 30 and 50 yar d liners creating a traffic jam in to turn o ne of f th e s tart. Marco More ll o emerged as the leade r down the back straight. While Morello main tained a seve ral bike- length advantage over Kelvin Herra la, McBride moved to third , and on lap three went past Herrala to challenge Morello for the lead . Pressing Morello ve ry hard in t he turns , th e East Si de Tavern /Sam the Beer Man-sp onsored McBride too k an inside line and led the last lap to score a determi ned victory. Lenny McBrid e was joined on the starting line by his b ro ther, Tuff, who was mak ing his return to Champion Speedway afle r a three-year absence. The othe r two contenders were Joel Monell, and Canadia n Gary He smer. From the inside pole positi on Monell stayed wit h both McBrides off the gate. Lenny McBride quickly outdistanced both his brother and Monell for first while Tuff McBride s tr ugg led to maintain second over Monell, who made sev eral a tte m p ts to move pa st h im . Tuff, however, held o ff Mon ell 's charge to take second whil e Lenny McBride had easy sailin g to the finish line to again capture a double Champion Speed way victory. II was Treta ra lopp ing the Scratch main while Smith look the bat tle in the Ha ndicap. In heal race action Pat Reynolds looked like the ride r to beat. Reyno ld s was the only, rider to go to the Scratch ma in und efeated . Reynolds laun ched the front wheel skyward at the flash of the ga te and Tretara led into tum one. Tre tara had the slick track d ialed with Reynold s searching for a line. Reynolds tried the outside as they wen t into turn four w ith the checke red in sight and hooked a rut. Smith too k adva ntage of the slip and took over second . In Handicap actio n it was Smith off the 40 lead ing by the third lap with Tretara moving int o seco nd by lap four after starting from the Oct. 7 AMA Roadrace .
