Hun ter, who also won his heat, was thir d a nd Roger Dur kee was fourth in tum one . By lap thr ee Durkee passed Hunter a nd afte r trading seco nd place back and fort h wi th Skid more, fina lly passed Skid more, leavin g only Coolbeth between him and first p lace. On lap five Coolbet h left jus t e no ugh room fo r Durkee to skirt by h im in tum two. From lap six through lap nine Coo lbeth battled to keep second place from Hun ter, who was closi ng fast. On lap nine Coo lbeth went wid e in tu m four with Hun ter on his tail waiting for jus t this shot. Hunter passed Coolbeth at the white flag and w en t after Durkee , bri ngi ng the fan s to thei r feet. Lee Ros tein ma nag ed to get in front of the speedi ng Ca rs te n long e n o u g h to take the holeshot off the firs t 250cc Pro- Exp e rt mot o, Within half a lap Carsten had taken his place in the lead . As Carsten pu lled farther and farther a way, Nei l Wo erner wa s fending off [oe l Deng ler, Dengler was abo u t to pounce. positioning for a pass at the top of the straigh taway, but the n lifted o ff when he lost con tro l a nd we nt ove r the side . Woerner carried on in second with Micky Kess ler taking over Deng ler's third. With one lap to go, Kessler went down in the center track sectio n, leaving Jerry Seip to take over in third . At the final flag earsten was first wi th a 20-second lead . Again, Cars ten pulled away from the pack, es tablishing a 12seco nd lead by the mid way point. Joel Deng ler cha rged into the lead for the s O c class with Oc Carlin p utting on the p ress ure behind him. Jalil Lynch ow ned the second 12see spot until a spill in the last tum with two laps to go cost him the position. earsten finished first overa ll and first 12Sec Expert while Dengler brought home the SOOcc Expert win.. Carsten sta r ted the fin al by clai m ing the holeshot then mov ing in to first wi thin half a lap . Dengler led the 5OO's, trying to kee p up with Carste n 's s c rea m in g 125cc Suz u ki. Jim Mcilvaine, Rost ein , Lynch a nd Seip fell into place b ehi n d the tw o leaders. Carsten and Deng ler mainta ined their lead s un til the last lap to bring in the second of two moto wins and the 125cc and SOOCC overall win s. Mcilvaine's tw o second-p lace finis he s brough t him seco nd for the day. Lynch and Neil Woern er took th ird and fou rth, respect ively. In the SOOcc Expert di vision , Rostei n's 2-3 score earned him second overall. First Klas s Glass/ Bell Helmet s /Riversid e Service-backed O'Boyle has become a familiar sig ht in the winners circle at the grooved half mile in Lake Odessa. As it has been all season the compet itio n was to ugh and plentiful w ith three heats and a semi going to the line 10 weed out the contenders. O'Boyle set the pace in heat one w ith Dave Kolenda ab le to stay wi th him for only a sho rt time. Before O'Boyie was thro ugh, he had three seco n ds o n the fie ld . Eric O 'B oyl e stead ily moved thro ugh traffic to pick up third with the last direct transfer in the heat going to Eugen e Copel and. Mark Wyskei l se t a blisteri ng pace in hea t two with Paul Kops tucking do wn on the bac k stretch trying to catch a draft I..J. Schaidt's bike too k him out of contention on the back stretch w ith a mec hanical failure . Last minute confu sion and a m isint erpretation of the rul es wou ld see Schaid t rerum to a semi bu t no t on his original Yamaha. The teenager was immedi ately ord ered to report to th e referee, w h e reby h e was in form ed he would not be eligible to race the final even tho ugh he had won the se mi. Jack Mayer Jr. was out for a Saturday night cruise in heat thr ee. Maye r Jr. wi red the field, but with no one to challenge him wo u ld pos t the slowes t time, one secon d slower than O'Boy le's heat. Mike Kolenda and Don Bannervan woul d ea m the last two transfers out of the se mi. Fourteen riders came to the line for the fmal on ly to wa tch Doug O'Boyle p ut the checkered fla g away at the gree n light wi th a one man show of force. Mark Wyskeil challenged seve ral times but took himself out whe n he tried a pass in tum two on lap eight. Wyskeil wen t radica lly side ways but held onlo his Hond a, loosing only '-96 enough gro un d to take him out of the first place runnin g. Wys keil h un g on to second place for the rema ind er of the race. Rid e rs greeted the checkered flag in single file fashion with Doug O'Boyle taking the win followed by WyskieI in se co nd , May er in third a nd Eric O 'Bo yle in fourth. The Combo class had seve ral res tarts before the checkered flag fell. The first red flag flew jus t as Dou g O'Boyle gained the advant age over Dave Kolenda on lap two as Kirk Wirick went down in the comer. Wirick fared better than his Yama ha which was unab le to make the restart. Res tart two came at the ha lfway po in t w he n Schaidt wen t way ou t on a limb while trying to ove rtake Mayer [r, who was leadin g the field. Schaidt wen t d own in his attempt, brin ging ou t the second red flag much to Maye r Ir's dis may. A staggered restart p roved much to O'Bcyle's advan tage as he challenged Mayer Jr. peg to peg down the back stre tch, emerging ou t of tum fou r on top . Maye r Jr. felt the m oney crunch on e more time as Mark Wyskeil switched lines in midturn, dropped back, and th rew his Honda to the inside sna tching second place mo ney jus t in ti me . Seyfferle wins Lawrenceburg Short Track thriller By John Spurrier LAWRENCEBURGIN SEP 10,199 , 3 Joe Seyffe rle, Mike Butler , and Ga ry Stogsdill waged a lo-lap battle in the closest Pro-Am featu re a t Lawrenceburg Speed way this season, anq when it wa s aU over, Seyfferle emerged victoriou s. Seyfferle led out of tu m two on the open ing lap with Butler ca mped on his rea r wh eel and Stogsdill camped on Butler's rea r wheel. Bu ller showed Seyffer le a wh eel on every straight and severa l times pulJed even with him on the outside only to give it up go ing into the turns as Seyfferle guarded the low line. Stogsdill ran his ra ce a bout s ix fee t beh in d Butler, read y to pounce if eit he r ride r made a mist ake. On the last lap Butler tried an outsi de pass on Seyfferle coming out of tum four and lost traction for jus t an ins tan t, givi ng Stogsdill the chance he'd been wa iting for. He pounced on it and bea t Butler to the line for seco nd p lace by less tha n a w hee l leng t h and only about th ree fee t behin d Seylfe rle. Behind the lead trio Curt Snelling and James Kantor took fourth and fifth, respectively. Ken Maynar d got a great start and the ear ly lead on his Rota x in the Open A class feature on ly to see it va nish as Sam Lowe fell in tum two on the second lap, bringing out the red flag. On the restar t Maynard got to tum one in first place again, led a t the end of the first lap, and was gree ted by a red flag a t the end of lap two as bot h Luther Allen and Sam Lowe cras hed in tu m thr ee . Neither rider was injured, and the race was resta rted for the third time. Mayn ard got his third grea t start and led wire to wire for the win. Sam Lowe charged up throug h the pack to claim second p lace followed by J.P. BoIling an d Tony BoIling . Allen fell again, was unable to resta rt his bike, a nd wa tched the rest of the race from the infield. In the Ove r 30 feature Kyle Hall gra bbed the early lead only to fall off and bring ou t the red flag .
