T HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS to Britt Turkington on winning the #1 Plate in the AMNCCS 750cc Supersport Class for 1993! WorldChampionship 125cc MX Series: Final round Tragter earns title Down Under MANJIMUP, AUSfRALIA, AUG. 29 u tchman Ped ro Tragte r, who has finished the 12Scc GP series third on three previous occasions, finally stru ck gold in the Australian ou tback when he sewed up the champion ship at the Cosy C reek tr ack in Western Australia. Just 31 ride rs turn ed up to race at the scenic track that hosted the Mo tocross des Na tions las t year; 14 seeded riders we re joi ned by four Eu ro pean-based series regu lar s .who were pa ying their own expenses, alon g wit h 13 Aussie riders who were mak ing their series debu t. H o ld in g a 34-poin t lea d ove r Frenchman Yves Demaria en teri ng the mee ting, Ches terfield Suzuki's Tragter, 25, only needed to stay out of trouble to secure the crown. He was con ten t to move to within three points of the title in race one as he chased winner Andrea Bartolini over the line, while Dem aria co ul d manage o nly fourth despite rec ordin g th e fastest la p of the race . Dem ari a's compatriot Mickael Pichon was third in the mot o. Nothing short of two wins could salvage Demaria' s hop es after that finish. Though Tragter had to ride thro ugh the pack to finish seventh in race two, the d es tin y o f the title had already been decided 22 second s earlier, as the Italian Bartolini won again with Tragter's teammate [oakirn Karl sson in second place and ready to repel Demaria's every effort. Barto lini 's Ho nda teamm ate Alessio Chiodi was exclud ed from the first race, w h ile a one- minu te noise penalty dropped Dave Strijbos from eigh th to 15t h in rac e two. None of the Fren ch contingent completed the final moto of the series in which Strijbos clinched the bron ze medal with a win over Tragter. Bartolini clinched his third overall win in the last four GPs wi th a fourt h-place moto finish. Kim Ash kena zi was the top Auss ie in all three motes, collectin g 23 poi nts for eigh th overall. CN Britt sealed up the . Championship on his Yoshimura/Suzuki GSXR750W in the'last race of the season at Sears Point in northern California. This was not an easy task, as Britt had to start from the second row of the starting grid. Britt had powered his Yoshimura Suzuki to the front to stay clear of the battle for position in t!lrn one, and led {or the first few laps. D Not needing a win in this race to secure the Championship, Britt found a gap where he could settle into cruise mode and counted down the 19 lapswhich must have felt like a hundred laps before Britt saw the checkered flag! We would also like to extend sincere congratulations to Britt's teammate, Gerald Rothman Ir., who rode hard all year and received Top Expert Honors in BOTH the 600cc and 750cc Supersport classes. This has been a fantastic race year for us, and Yoshimura would like to thank and congratulate ' all the members of the Yoshimura Team who worked so hard this year, with special thanks and congratulations to our valuable sponsors who made this Championship possible: You, too, can race to the checkered flag with your own Yoshimura Duplex Race Only E xhaust System!*Contact your Yoshimura Dealer today! .SOiUKI ~Z¥d@L7M N D I7N Z,O P :yr;- StickWiIhUs ONO SOt
