The fir st wa ve off was the 450cc Pro ductio n class, wi th Mo n Wa i a nd Rick Matthews, a lso on an FZR400, go ing side by side int o tum on e. Tom Rice, Kevin No rm et, Tom Ma rx, a nd local fas t girl Dani Saxman followed close behind. Then the starting grid roared to life wit h the star t of the second wa ve, the Open Singles class . The GSSOO class wa s crea ted by a. gro up o f local Suz uki Dealers with support from Metzeler tires and DynoWorks . The rules are "Do n' t mess with the bik e!" The box stock ru les ens ure d ose racing, and th is class provid ed some of the most d ram a tic ba r ban gin g on the track. Froberg and Zenge r bo th wa nted the lead exiting the sing le line " Bailey 's Bus Stop " chicane. This disagreement resulted in a big collision, with both riders pushi ng on each othe r, still tryi ng to ge t ou t a head . Neithe r rider fell, bu t a t the end it wa s Zenger over Froberg for the win. Bill Kearne y ca me in th i rd . Stua r t Hutch in s a nd Dwaine Tru rnmert finished fourth and fifth. Tod d Hahne and jeff Wa lker were ou t front in Fonnula il l, but the excitement was with long time Formula IIi regulars Bre t Par ker and jeff Savoie.
