AUG.7 Breck Pow ers walked away from the co rnpe tition at the fifth and final roun d of the Sportland Honda-Yamaha /Miller Gen uine Draft /Downers Grove Honda /Tuf Racing - sponsored Mega-X Shootout Sta dium MX held at the TriCo u nty Fairg round s. Powers hol esho t the field and pulled away to high flyi ng , runaway wins in both the 125cc A and 250cc A fina ls to top off his best evening of the season. The 12Sec B class led off the p rogram wi th two full qualifiers and a Last-Chance Qualifier. The final stage pitted qua lifier winn er s Shaw n Wehlage and Mike Olsen against LCQ winner Bill Brinton in a 17-man final that made for some of the closes t raci ng of the eve ning . When the chec kers flew it was Ryan Daub er improvin g his second-p lace heat finish to a win over Cou rtney Macke wh o fended off Wehla ge, Don Dam ron and Olsen for third . The 250cc A final was next to stage a t the gate and it was the first chance of the nigh t for Pow ers to shine. He blasted to a tigh t inside line to take the holeshot and slowly styled his way away from the field , leaving Bret Pedone to fight off Dave Brill, Jeff Stimac and Tim Fillippi for second. Wehlage redeemed himse lf qui te nicely in the Min i division. Weh lage led the field in both the q ua lifier a nd the fina l to take the win over the dimin u tive Joey Brewer. Shawn Kennedy. Don Huffman and [apeth Suslee . The 30+ plu s final was a repeal of the qualifi er with Walker tun ing up the field for the win. Steve Judge, alway s on the ragged ed ge, held on for a close second in front of the "Ru bber Duck", Dave Brill, and Phil Banks. . The 250cc B final left no d oubt tha t Ryan Dauber is getting to be a for ce in the class . Posti ng his second win of the evening. Dauber used a lo t of air a nd n imble turns to s top the charges of Craig Lee, Scott Ande rson and Chuck Lough. As usual, the 125 A final was saved for last and it turned into the Breck Powers Show as he jumped into an early lead a nd spent most of the race wowing the fans wit h his acroba tics over the grandsta nd table top . Jack Lee kept it close until a sp ill se t him back . Tim Damron cam e on in the late laps to close the gap and take second over Jay Mera ll, Keith Petri and Bret Pedone. Results MIN I: 1. Pa tterson came off the line in second behi nd Johnny Shields and in fron t of Shane Berryh ill. Patt ers on pressu red Shields for the first part of the race and took over the lead on a steep offcamber tum . With Patterson in the lead, Shields and Berryhill were left to chase eac h other for three laps abo ut two seconds behind. On the third lap Sh ields hit the fini sh-lin e tum too hot and let Berryhill pull eve n on the ins ide before kno cking him down. Sh ields was the first one up and continued to the finish line in secon d , leaving Shan e in thir d w it h a bent brake rot or. The second moto was totally different wh en the ga te dropped a nd Sh iel d s go t ca ug ht. Berryhill took the lead at th e firs t turn with Patterson on the inside. Un ab le to make th e pass ; Patterson chased Berryhi ll for one lap only to slide ou t in the first tu m after the finish-line jump.
