~ MOTOCROSS MX ~ Ricky Carmichael (167) bested Jacob Martin (139) in the 80cc Modified (12-13) class. Eric Williams (184) and Travis Pastrana (199) we n t 1-2 in 80cc Modified (0-11). The Mini riders had trouble even completing on e muddy lap on Th u rsday and Friday . • 26 Perolio and .Leath. He again dominated in moto two, though he had to recover after casing it hard over a double . Kawasaki-mounted Jason Partridge cha r ge d all moto long, motoring b y Lea th on a stra ight to garner second wi th one lap remaining. Partridge, fifth in moto one, earned third overall, while Leath was second overall. The Super Min i class marked th e only chance for Carmichael and Bogard to compete d irectly against each othe r, but even this confrontation was delayed, as the two rivals were in different divisions and would not face off un til the run-off. Bogard won his d ivision one first moto, but fi nished second to Partridge in moto two when he experienced trouble w ith his chain adjustor. "I was out of control trying to catch Jason, but m y ch ai n adj ustor ca m e loose," said Bogard . "My d ad had changed my tire right before the moto. I thought it (the problem) was my wheel because I always brea k s pokes, so I backed off an d took second." Carmichael ma nhandled division tw o's first moto, crossing the line well ah ead of Dustin Nelson. In the second moto, And y Harrington sna red the lead out of the gate, but slid out over a jump and let Carmichael into his cus tomary p osit ion at the head of the pack . He remained there for the rest of the moto, winning easily over Perolio . All eyes turned to the track for the Super Mini class' run-off moto, which was the fina l race of the week. Bogard had alread y sewed up the GNC title, but Carmichael was looki ng to prove he was the more d eser vin g ri der. Th e fa ns . weren't disap poi nte d, as the climactic moto was an ac tion-packed affair. Carmichael led the pack d own through th e d ogleg in the start straight, but on his tail a nd charging hard was none other than Bogard. Bogard hammered at Carmichael's rear wheel for the first three laps of the five-lap moto, while the Ka wa sa ki r ider took inside lines thr ough the turns to keep Bogard behind him. Carmichael wasn't jum ping . a do ubl e directly after a turn, and Bogard took advantage by closing in and then passing him in a turn early on th e fourth lap. Carmichael hounded Bogard for the remainder of the race, but cam e up short at the finish and settled for ru n ner-u p honors . Kawasaki rid er Ryan Oark was third in the moto, w ith Partrid ge placing fourth for third overall. ''' 1 kep t taking that line through the powder in that turn, trying to build up a berm," sa id Boga rd . "I got it built u p and then I used it to get some momentum and pass him," "I thought I could do it , especially when I got th e h ol eshot," sai d .- Carmichael. "I can' t believe I didn't do that double. I was tak ing insi de lin es, a n d tha t kept me fr o m getting th e moment um I needed. He rode a go od race." Ka w asaki's Pau l Cu rrie won the 12See Stock Intermed iate class' d ivision one first rnot o, while teammate Casey Johnson notched second . In moto two, Robbie Skaggs, who had finished 10th in moto one on yet another Kawasaki, passed Currie to win the moto. Johnson was third. "I d idn 't do too good in my firs t mot o, so I just thought I' d give it my best, said Skaggs. "He (Currie) slowed down for the double, so I said, 'H ev, I can pass him here: an d went for it." • Team Green l AXO/Maxima /Dunlo p IScott/Renthal/ FMF I N -St y le l Hammerhead / No FearI LC5-suppo rted Windham overtook a fast-starting Richie Ho rton in division two's first moto, then opened up a gap to earn the win. Jeff Willoh also got by Horton to finish seco n d. In moto two, Willoh took the h olesho t, only for Wi nd ha m to slip underneat h him early on and motor away to another win. Dennis Owens was third behind Willoh . . On th e start of the run-off, Willoh had t he hot clutch hand, while Windham was stuck in third behind Horton. The top three began to slug it out, with Windham getting by Horton on lap two and passing WiIloh for the lead early on lap three. Windham stayed out fron t to the fi nish , with Horton moving by Willoh for second. Willoh earned second overall and Horton was third. In the 12Scc Modified Intermediate class, Skaggs won the first moto over Josh Becke tt , but finished second to Johnson in moto two. Windham again aced both motos in division two , with Willoh finishing second in both outings. Honda-mounted Michael York led in the early g o ing of the run-off, with Willoh second and Windham railing in third. Windham overtook both riders by the midway point of the six-lap race, and roosted ahead to the moto and overall wins. Johnson advanced to second for second overall, while Willoh slipped to fourt h place and third overall. "Everybod y rode really good:' said Windham. "They've been pushing me hard all week. I was nervous coming in, but I gained a little confidence after the first couple of motos." . Ray Mitchell headed the 250cc Stock Intermediate cla ss out of -the gate in moto one, with Joh nson in second.
