Brewe r, Nate Eslinge r and Jeremy Brown for the top spot. In the final, Brow n hu n ted Kennedy for five lap s. Everyo ne in the place knew wh en the pass was corning, but the cro wd still cheered when he flew past on the doub le / double/ stepup a nd held on for the win . Kennedy held off Brewer, Eslinger and Jimm y Drozd for the second spo t. Stacey took the first of his convincing w ins in the 30+ class. He go t out fron t in bo th the quali fier and the final. In the heat, Ron Walker kept it close for most of the race but settl ed for second over Ron Downen, Dav e Brill and Joel Hall . In the final, Walker again was the bridesmaid to Stac ey , but this time Brill was thi rd ov e ra ll in fr o nt of Downen a n d Todd Williamson. Th e 250 cc B division was as large as th e 125cc B class, and took tw o qu ali fiers and an LCQ to sort out. The first qua lifier went to Alex Gombar in front of Steve Stuenkel, Scott Miller and Jeff Ibur g. The second qualifie r went to Dan Modaff/who bested Joe Carlino, Chad Sta nko and Crai g Lee. The LCQ went to Joey Mackey in front of Erik RL and Kevin Lee. The final was 'Cd a work of ar t by Dan Modaff. He styled his way to the fro n t a nd held off the hard cha rges o f Ca rlino, Alex Gomba r, Joey Mack ey and Stacy Shelton for the win. Stacy found himse lf buried in the back of the pack a t the start of the 250cc A qua lifier, and by the ti me the Fou r-la p ra ce was over, he had moved up to th ird . Eric Wid emeyer fought off Breck Pow ers for the qua lifier w in. Todd Williamson (KTMI. .Estes collects LACR MX win By Greg Robertson 34 PALMDALE,CA, jUNE 25 Marty Estes knew what he had to d o to take the ov e ra ll hon ors in th e 250cc Novice cl as s a t Cali fornia Racin g Club's Hot Summer N ights Friday Night MX, held at Los Angel es Co unty Raceway. . It .was Estes out front a t the start of the first mo to ahead of Robin Hall, Mike Blair and Ken Reed . Ha ll had tro ub le oll the opening lap and dropped back to se ven th, allowing both Blair and Reed to advance one position..Estes buil t a two-tu m advantage ov e r the fight for second that he would hold until the checkered flag. "Th e flrst mo to went good, I pulled the holeshot and then pulled ou t a five-s econd lead a nd backed off and wo n it," com men ted Estes after the race. Blair held off Reed to flnish second. Danny Bushey ma de his p resence known by sna ring the holeshot in the second moto ahead of Blair and Hall. Blair pushed Bushey back to second wi thin a lap w hile Reed ove rtook Hall for thi rd a t the same time. Tucso n ATV a nd Cycle-backed Estes had his work cut ou t for him after ga ting in sixth p lace. " I worked my way up a nd pa s sed a few guys on the first lap, then the lead er (Blair) wen t down and I got stuck beh ind the guy who was in second p lace (Reed ) and inherited the lead," said Estes. "I knew that the guy that went do wn was the one I needed to beat, and saw he wa s back in third p lace. I hound ed the leader the who le race. O'Nea l /Ma xima /Scott /R id ers ' C ho icespo nsored Scott Howe had a ho t night, winn ing all six motos he en te red . Howe too k th e win both times out over Sean Collier in the Pee Wee Modifi ed class. He then came back and wo rked a round both Daryl Ecklun d and Chad Gaumer to take a coup le of first-pla ce finishes in the 60cc (0-8) class. Howe 's stiffest competition came in the Pee Wee A ranks as Gaumer holeshot mota one with Collier in second and How e stuck in mid pack. Ho we sliced up to third beh ind Collier by the second lap. Collier kept looking over his sho ulder, wa iting for Howe to make his move, which he did a t the halfw ay point. The final-lap battl e saw Ho we , u se an o u ts id e-insid e pass on Gaumer to take the lead and mota win. Collie r ran ou t fro nt for the first couple of laps of moto two before Howe reeled him in for the pass and eventual win. Rand repels opposition at Daniel Boone Motocross By Gwen Harris LONDON, KY, JUNE 20 Greg Rand repe lled all opposi tion as he raced his Suzuki to the checkered nag in round eigh t of the Sh eltow ee Series at Daniel Boone MX Park. Rand to p ped both the 125 and 250cc A . classes in hea ted ba ttles against Kevin Walker, Brad Strunk, Ryan Duff and Jeff Steinroek. The first 125cc A moto began with Walk er taking the holeshot, Walker led the first lap , but Rand was righ t on him all the way and finally slipped past on a d ownhill nea r the end of lap two . Rand's luck didn't hold ou t and his bik e we nt down a t the top of the track, letting Walker resume th e lead . Ran d , Duff, Strunk a n d Steinrock were all very close, fighting for second p lace. The moto ende d with Walker, Rand and Strunk ta king the top three positi ons. In the second moto Rand got out of the ga te first and moved out qu ickly. Walker held on to second and Strunk was forced to settle for third. The first 250cc A class mote was an exciting one. Rand led the ent ire time, bu t Walker tripled on the stair steps, a first at Dani el Boone. On the nex t lap both Wa lker and Ra n d tripl ed the obstacle a nd the crowd wen t wild . The second mota was a carbon copy of the first. Rand led all the way and Walker ran every lap in second p lace. . Fathers rode 60s and 80s an d wh en riding go t d ifficult in the steep uphill section, one or two just got off and ran, pushing their bikes.
