Sportsman Association-sanctioned Hare
Scramble at Santa Fe Trail Cycle Park.
Recent deluges reduced the amount of land
available and the resultant three-mile course
was a challenging mix of technical sections and
mud holes. Isaacs headed the first line of experts
into the first corner, tailed by Bruce Korbelik,
Mike Kruger, Dave Haworth and Dave Jeffery
after a couple of extra kicks. Isaacs had no problems sorting out the track and led all 11 laps, followed by Korbelik, Kruger, Jeffery, and
Haworth. In contrast 10 the stagnation of the
Expert class, there was a lot of action back in the
pack.
Paul DiPasquale and Roger Ward swapped
the Intermediate class lead several times until
Ward ran out of gas. DiPasquale went on to
sixth overall ahead of Steve Wichman, who survived a battle with Perry Keegan for the Open
class honors.
The Plus-30 class riders were led off the line
by Brian Mathys, who soon missed a comer and
was passed by Greg Aytes and Phil Ellsworth.
Mathys was dropped to fourth by Randy Smith
and the order was unchanged until lap nine
when Aytes fell on a short uphill and lost position while trying to relight his KTM. He reeled
in the leader but was 'blocked by lappers and
couldn't make the pass.

Koons, Harrison score at
Woodland Motocross
By Brian Barnes
WOODLAND, WA, APR. 18
Woodland Cycle Park's sandy soil suited
Tacoma Yamaha-sponsored Brian Koons, who
won both the competitive 250cc Junior class and
the Up the Hill Junior division, wliile Enumclaw
Yamal)a-backed Chad Harrison bested a full
gate in the 2SOcc Beginner class, with Wins in
both motos.
Washougal Motocross Park was actually
hosting its first race of the season, but it was
moved to Woodland due to heavy rains in the
area all week.
Aurora Suzuki-sponsored Jason Baker was
also a force to be reckoned with, taking a second-mota win over 31 riders in the 12Scc Junior
class to claim his overall. In mota one Everett
Suzuki rider Travis Gage and Aurora Suzukibacked Jeff Bee waged war for all five laps after
getting by Sean English on the start. Gage
passed Bee with just two laps remaining to score
the win. Bow Baker, Derrick Jasper and Patrick
Henry rounded out the top five.
In mota two Gage and Jasper got out front
early, with Jasper's CRl25 Honda taking over
the lead on lap two, while Gage and Rocky
Gilmore ran second and third. On lap three
Baker had started his charge to the front of the
pack, and while Jasper tried to hold him off, the
last lap found Baker muscling his way past and
securing the overall victory. Jasper was a close
second with Gage third, Bee fourth and Greg
Wall fifth in the malo.
The 250cc Junior class also had a big turnou~
with Koons, Bruce Isaacs, Gage and Phil
Johnson doing most of the battling in mota one.
Koons looked great, leading Johnson across the
line for the win, with Gage and Richie Shecman
third and fourth, respectively. In moto two,
Gage was the class of the field, moving up
through .the pack from a mediocre midpack
start, and passing Koons two laps from the end
to take the mota win and second overall Koons
played it safe for second in the moto, but scored
the overall via his 1-2 tally.
In the 250cc Beginner class there was no
match for Yamaha-mounted Chad Hacrison,
who led from start to finish in both motos.
Hanison's main competition came in the form of
Ron Selley, Calvin Whiting, Bill Palo and Scott
Johnston, who rounded out the top five.
