Ben Solis went wire to wire in both heats at
Adams Raceway to take the overall win in the
Beginner Stock class and rider of the day honors
at the AMRRA road race in Riverside.
Solis ripped from the line in the first heat race,
followed by Ian 1gercic and Xavier Fumat. As the
riders approached the back straight Fumat went
down, allowing the field to pass. As Solis and
Igercic began ID pull away, Shawn 1gercic settled
into the third spot. Fumat began passing riders,
but could only move as high as sixth place before
the checkered flag dropped. Solis took the win.
followed by Ian 1gercic and Shawn 1gercic.
In the second heat race Solis again separated
himself from the pack exiling tum one, leaving
Shawn 1gercic and Ian Igercic to battle for the
second spot. By midrace Tetsuya Kosaka moved
into the battle for the third spot. Shawn Igercic
and Kosaka swapped lines and continued to
draft each other down the straight, but it was
Kosaka who held onto the third spot. Solis finished first with Ian 1gercic taking second.
The first Beginner Modified heat race saw
Mark Davenport flick his bike into tum one with
jorge Arroyo, Russel Lenz and Benjamin Segal
in dose tow. On lap number five, Lenz missed a
shift exiting tum three and Segal was able to slip
by. Segal continued to push hard and by lap six
he passed Arroyo for the second spot. At the
checkered flag it was Davenport taking the win
with Segal second and Arroyo third.
In the second hea t race of the Beginner
Modified class, Davenport again got the
holeshot followed closely by Segal and Arroyo.
Again Davenport pulled away from the pack,
leaving the rest of the field to battle for position.
This race saw both Shawn Igercic and Bill IGm
join the fight. Arroyo, IGm and Igercic fought it
out for nine laps, but at the finish it was
Davenport taking the win, with Arroyo in second and IGm with a strong thircl

HENRY,
n.. MAY 1-2
Tote Gray Racing Association kicked off the flat
track season with the traditiol'a! opener at the
MarshaD-PuInam County Fairgrounds half mile,
and Suburan Harley-Davidson-<;ponsored Bret
Beyer won the Expert share of the program in
both days of competition.
Under the new AMA sanction system,
Saturday's race was a Pro-Am event with over
150 entries.
Seventeen experts signed up along with 26
pro-ams. Hart Racing's Paul Morgan, riding his
first race as a pro, was the runaway winner of
the Pro-Am main.
Morgan, Chris Links and Lee johnson won
the three Pro-Am heals. Steve Gill topped the
semi.
The three Expert heats fell to Chad Barth,
Beyer, and Dave Hebb. Chris Schmulbach was
victorious in the semi.
With the skies threatening to unload any_ time. the professional mains were fun first.
Morgan used a high line around tum one to lead
Scot Summers around the first circuit of the Pre>Am main. As the field thundered down the back
straigh~ Lee johnson slipped off the outside in a
nasty-looking spill The red flag greeted Morgan
as he finished lap two.
Johnson's Rotax was stuffed into a wood pile
and while a small army of helpers pulled it free,
johnson regrouped. When the green light
flashed, Johnson was back in action.
Morgan's start wasn't as good, but once
again he rode next to the hay bales and led the
pack down the back straight. Links was set in
second with Summers leading johnson and
Chris Boone. Morgan pulled ID a large lead over
Links as Summers faded inID the pack. Johnson
was third over Boone and Scott Shinn until the
last lap, when Shinn unloaded hard in turn
three. Gill moved into fifth ahead of Gary
Stogsdill and SummersThe Expert main also had to be red-flagged
when Terry Vestal hooked handlebars with
another rider midway down the backstraight. Ty
Howard was left with no place to go and hit
Vestal's bike at full speed. The force of the spill
destroyed Howard's Rotax, but fortunately
Howard only needed a ride back to the pits.
Wade Camlin repeated his holeshot and
directly moved to the top of the track on his
Honda. Another rim-rider, Beyer held down second over Hebb and Kurt Boehlke. Beyer slowly
reeled Camlin in and m.oved around just past
the halfway point. Hebb had his XR750 solidly
in third. Boehlke held off the late challenge of
jim Sumner for fourth.
On Sunday, Morgan propelled his Rotax to
the front of the Pre>-Am main, only to have Brian
Knippenberg blast by on lap two. Knippenberg
held the point until the halfway mark, then
Morgan retook the position. Knippenberg held
on to a lonesome second. Gary Stogsdill moved
passed Larry Schaidt for third.
Carnlin had the starts wired all weekend and
the start of the Expert main was no different.
Coming off the outside pole, Camlin powered
around the top of tum one to lead laps one and
two. Starting lap three, Beyer shot his mount
inside Camlin and took over. Camlin was now
under attack from james Hart, and Hart quickly
rode by. Tune ran out on Hart, who was closing
on Beyer. Carnlin was a safe third over Tommy
Coison and Dave Hebb.
