Each rider raced in five, lour-lap, lour-man heat races, and was awarded points according to his finish. Tl)e four riders with the most points would start on the front row of the main, with the top two riders of the consolation race starting on the back row. Buclcy Blair jumped into the lead at the start of the consolation race, and was shadowed by . Vance Felicio and Sieve Brinlcer. On lap three, Felicio moved to the inside of Blair in turn lour, and bumped into the leader's rear tire and Iell. The Day After the Rose Bowl Supercross Blair and Brinker joined pole-sitter Webb, }ohn Grant, Mark Blair, Buclcy Blair and Bruce Nelson lor the six-lap main event. Webb snared the holeshot and led Grant, Bucley Blair and Nelson into turn one. Webb maintained his lead all the way to the checlcers with the only change in running order coming on lap two, as Buclcy , Blair went wide in turn three, leaving a hole lor Nelson to slip through and finish third.
