eEVENTS e Chris Bault rode his Suzuki to the checkered flag ahead of 27 other riders in the first moto of the 125<:c C class. In the second molo, a hard-riding Robert Goldson proved his skill as he swapped the lead back and forth with Bault. Goldson pulled out the victory, but Baulttook the overall win. Results Mark Decker of Sunwesl Yamaha turned the tables on F~bruary's big winner, Montclair Yamaha's Kenny Maddox in the Vet Intermediate/Expert YZ race. By Elaine Jones SAN BERNARDINO, CA, APR. 4 on a tricky uphill. Eventually, Childre clipped a stump, allowing Smith a clean escape and an unthreatened run to the finish line. By the third lap, Smith had made up the two-minute starling gap on Open Expert Mike Abbott. On the fourth lap, Abbott was stuck in the mud and Smith took advantage to get around for the overall lead. ."I don't know if I was just riding extremely well or if everyone else was having a bad day," Smith said. "It was my kind of track with the hills, mud, and ruts." Childre, however, still had to deal with David Culpepper, who pulled up on his back door on lap four. A decision to jump a boggy creek put Culpepper into the number-two spot for good. The rest of the Expert classes did not fair so well. In the Open Expert dass, Mike Abbott slammed across a creek, planted his WR500 in the far bank and flipped over the bars, pulling Todd Tarver and Bert Reynolds inlo a battle for the lead. Although riding somewhat tenatively, Reynolds took the lead from Tarver and earned his first Open Expert dass win this year, several minutes off of the pace of the overall leaders. In the 2.5Occ: Expert class, Tracy Anders took the holeshot and looked to be hot. A win was not in the books, though, as Adrian Jacobs came from dead last to pass Anders in the ruts early in the first lap. Brent Shaw had already gotten by Anders and was nexl on Jacobs' hit list.
