Starwest Supercross action saw Donald Upton (632) fly to the 250cc Pro class win. eafly lead and set the blistering pace, while Mike Lampe, Mike Bernhart, Mike Duffield and Rod Fumell tagged along. Bischoff and Lampe crashed early, handing Duffield the lead and Furnell moving into second. A lap later, Furnell out-jumped Duffield on a set of doubles to take the point, while Bischoff and Lampe were weaving their way up through the pack. Later on, both Bishoff and Lampe passed Furnell, making the final finishing order, Bischoff, Lampe and Fumell. In the second moto, Bischoff nailed the holeshot ahead of Lampe and Furnell. A short time later, Lampe slipped by Bischoff to take the lead, but two laps later, Lampe fell in a berm, handing Bischoff the lead, moto win and ultimately, the overall class victory. Branson bruises Starwest MX By David Procida MORENO VALLEY, APR. 3 Glen Branson earned the win in the 125cc Beginner class at the third round of the Starwest Summer Night Series. When the gate fell for moto one it was Ephraim Benjamin with the holeshot, followed by Jared Krause, Branson and a pack of over 20 riders. As Benjamin began to weave his way through the Snake Pit, he lost his front wheel in the esses and down he went. Krause was next, as he fell in the rockers and handed Branson the lead. Branson, who has been leading the series, took the lead and ran with it, pulling away from the pack. Jason Padilla took over second with Brian Brown in third. Benjamin had recovered from his earlier mishap and was in fourth, and riding in his shadow was Jason Orranson, both watching the action in fiont of them. Brown dove to the inside in the Dunlop Rockers and doubled his way past Padilla and into second. With the checkered flag coming out for Branson, the top three slots were already decided, but the battle for forth went down to the wire: Benjamin went to the inside and pushed Orranson off his line to squeeze by for fourth. Branson held the inside line for holeshot in moto two, with Mark Reyes, Orranson and Jared Krause eating his dust. Running in fourth was Padilla, with Benjamin keeping him honest. The first lap was uneventful with the exception of Branson, who opened up a half-dozen bike lengths on Reyes. At midmoto Brown jumped over Padilla, but the JO( rider didn't let . him pull away and began to dog him. On the next lap the two tangled in the rockers, with both riders going down.
