Sellards unstoppable at Malvern Motocross By Peggy Adamic 28 MALVERN,OH, MAR. 2B Fourteen-year-old Brock Sellards was the big winner at Malvern Motosport Park MX. The Kawasaki Team Green/Barrs/Gear/Wisecobacked rider recorded eight wire-t<>-wire mota victories to claim wins in four classes. Riding a Kawasaki KX80 Big Wheel, Sellards won the 125cc B, Senior Mini, Super Mini and Schoolboy classes. In the Heavyweight A class, Barney Barnell blasted into the early lead ahead of Vince Kamow and David Hand. Hand rode his Honda into the lead when Barnell and Kamow collided on lap two. Mike Kalin moved in on the dueling duo, as Hand pulled out to a comfortable lead. Hand scored the win ahead of Karnow, Katin, Barnell and Greg Wheeler. In the second mota, Bamell was again first off the line with Hand and Kalin nipping at his rear wheel. Hand motored around Barnell with Kalin following suit, passing Barnell before the beginning lap two. Hand continued to pound his way around the track to score the win ahead of Kalin and Kamow. Whiling used consistent scores to capture the overaU 12Sec Pro class win during Super Saturday MX, held at Perris Raceway, In the first moto, rookie pro Larry Linkogle grabbed the holeshot and led Damon Huffman, Yuiichiro Kawashima and Spud Walters down ·the front straight. As the riders flew towards a set of double jumps, Huffman flew over the bars wjthout warning. Before remounting in last place, Huffman took considerable lime to inspect his front wheel. Linkogle, meanwhile, extended his lead Over Kawashima, wha in turn held up a trio of hard charging riders. Walters, Steve Andrich and Billy Joe Mercier all looked for a way past the Japanese rider. Mercier was the most aggressive rider, and muscled his way past his competitors until he was in second behind Linkogle. Mercier carved deep inside Linkogle in a rut- ted turn and shoved the leader off the track. Mercier took over the lead while Linkogle struggled to regain his composure. Andrich and Whiting slipped past the miffed Linkogle and took over second and third. Mercier left the competition behind aboard his AXO/Motul/Pro Circuit-backed Kawasaki and scored the mota win ahead of Whiting, Andrich and Walters. A teenage·trio of Andrich, Huffman and Mike Metzger led the way at "the start of mota two. Huffman wasted little time displacing Andrich and smoking away with an easy mota win. Metzger also passed Andrich, and finished a solid second, seven seconds behind Huffman. Walters rode smoothly to fmish third, just ahead of Whiling and first moto winner Mercier. When the dust settled, Whiling was awarded the overall win with his 2~ finishes. Meeder was second overall with a 1·5 scorecard, and Walters was third with his 4-3. Sinisalo's Brian Manley turned in a pair of runner-up finishes to gamer the overall win in the 250Cc Pro class. Manley led much of the first moto, but a tumble in the rockers handed the win to Australian Peter Melton. Manley recovered for second, ahead of Donald Upton, Gordon Ward and Jason Frenelle. Manley led the first lap of the second moto but was no match for Huffman. Huffman notched a runaway win over Manley I Melton and Ward. Results P/W BEG DIY 1: I. Gregory Jones (Yam); 2.
