himself on the ground. Suddenly Waters found
himself in second, as Reynolds had almost gone
down in the collision. Henson took the checkers
first, foUowed by Waters, Reynolds and Russell
In the Knobby Expert class it was business as
usual for Miller, as he took the heat and main
event wins. Miller was not without competitiOJ\,
however, as Rod Reynolds hounded him all
night on a borrowed Suzuki DR3S0.
Miller led Todd GiUespie and Reynolds off
the start in the heat race, but a few laps later
Reynolds moved into second and latched onto
Miller's rear fender. Although Reynolds had
his front wheel under Miller several times, he
was unable to make the pass. Miller beat
Reynolds and Gillespie across the line in a close
finish.
In the main, the riders started the battle
where they had left off in the heat race. For 14
laps; Reynolds tried everything in the book to
get by, and fmally made the pass in tum one just
as they took the white flag. Reynolds slid out,
however, and Miller took the win after barely
avoiding Reynolds' downed bike.

Harrell hot at Willow
Springs Road Race
By Eric Vincent
ROSAMOND, CA, FEB. 20-21
Paul Harrell scored his first Toyota/
Dunlop/Del Amo Motors/Budweiser Formula
One Grand Prix race victory in 1993 at the second round of Willow Springs Motorcycle Club
racing action at Willow Springs International
Raceway.
Harrell had the race 'Iead from the s13rt on
his Attack Racing-sponsored Suzuki GSXRll00,
with second place initially being a battle
between Jim VanVegten on his Risky Business
Racing-sponsored Vamaha FZR1000 and Peter
Christensen on his Suzuki GSXRlIOO. A lap
down, HarreU was charging around the track
and putting a growing gap on his nearest competitors. At the same time, a fierce battle was
going on for second between Christensen,
VanVegten, Bruce Tebo and Lance Holst. The
spot was soon decided, as Christensen emerged
in second with VanVegten third and Tebo
fourth.
Tebo, riding on new tires, sl3rted making his
move in the third lap, passing VanVegten in the
inside of tum one to put himself in third. Two
laps laler, running through the fast turns eight
and nine, Tebo piloted his Gary McDonald
Racing/ Del Amo Motors-sponsored Suzuki
GSXRIlOO around the outside of Christensen to
move himself up into second
Not content to watch Harrell's rear tire, Tebo
continued to twist u,,; throttle and as the riders
started lap eight, he dropped inside of HarreU
going through tum one and took over the lead.
Tebo held that spot for a lap and a half until
Harrell drafted him going down the back
straight, retaking the lead.
Several tums later, as Harrell and Tebo continued to dice for the lead, they came up on
lapped traffic. Harrell surprised the lapped
rider, who moved over towards Tebo.
Unfortunately, Tebo had nowhere to go but off
the racetrack. Keeping the bike upright, Tebo
got back on the course still in second, but
Harrell was now well ahead.
At the checkered flag. it was Harrell 13king
the win with Tebo in second and VanVegten finishing third.
In the Maxima Racing Oil Formula Two race,
Mike Riley grabbed the holeshot off the line on
his Honda CBR600F2, followed by Andy Milton
in second. Darting through the pack was
Rodney Fee on his Grand Prix imports-sponsored Vamaha TZ2SO, who quickly closed up
and passed Milton in tum two. In no time, Fee
was aU over the tail of Riley. It took only a few
more turns for Fee to find his opportunity, as he
moved around the outside of Riley, running
through tum four to give him the lead.
As the riders came down the front straight to
complete the first lap, Milton had moved up on
Riley and was in his draft heading towards tum
one. His attempt to pass on the inside of the tum
came up short as Riley shut him out.
A lap later, a three-rider battle had developed for second as Jason Paden, riding his Cine
Camera-sponsored Vamaha TZ250 entered the
fray. Within several turns, Paden emerged in
second, foUowed by Milton on his F&o:L Fuelssponsored Honda CBR600F2.
The remainder of the eight-lap event saw
little change in the top three, as Fee opened up
a comfortable gap between himself and second. Milton and Paden exchanged second
place several more times, but at the line it was
Fee with the win, Paden second and Millon in
third. It was Fee's first WSMC Formula Two
face win.
