250 Main
The most obvious question about the
2D-lap 250cc main event was whether or
not Jeremy McGrath would win his fifth
in a rowand, if not, who would stop
him? Bradshaw would answer both
questions in short order.
Craig got the jump on the field and
led teammate Kiedrowski, Bradshaw,
Stanton, and DeHoop on the first lap.
"] got the kind of start I wanted all
year," Bradshaw said.
Bradshaw went under Kiedrowski in
a looping left on the second lap and set
after Craig, who he would catch in
midair on the fifth lap. Bradshaw took
over the lead, moving Craig to second.
Stanton passed Kiedrowski in the same
place to take over third and McGrath
was an early fifth.
Craig would try to hold onto second,
but·Stanton was pressing and got by on
the ninth lap as Craig began to feel the
effects of a recent cold.
"1 got real sick at Tampa and the cold
went to my lungs," Craig said. " 1 felt a
little weak and this track is real physical.
I hit an edge and it almost took me
down. I thought 1 was better, but 1 just
can't get over it that fast."
Alone and cruising out front was
Bradshaw, with nearly a three-second
lead at the halfway point. Stanton was
having a hard time putting a dent in
that lead, though it wasn't for lack of
effort. Stanton closed on the 16th lap,
but nearly fell when he came up on traffic, allowing Bradshaw to stretch the
gap to almost seven seconds.
