For leading makes and models. See your dealer. 80cc (7-11) class riders on the West Coast, was a dominant factor in both of those classes. Kavaney's main competition came from Oregon's Jason Hanson. In the 60cc class, Kavaney was faced with a full gate of 23 riders, all but one on KX60s. The heat race saw Kavaney lead from start to finish ahead of Hanson, while Kelvin Schoen finished third. The final was a repeat, as Kavaney held off the charges of both Hanson and Schoen. CJ. Wolf and Nate Goetz were fourth and fifth. In the 85cc (7-11) class it was once again Hanson who pursued Kavaney from second place during the heat race, but the final found Kavaney running all alone out front. Hanson had problems and dropped to sixth, opening the door for runner-up Cody Garvin. Wolf, Kyle Van Dyken and Nicki Dunn took third through fifth. In the highly competitive Plus-25 class, McClain looked great while winning both the hea t and final event. McClain bested Todd Hinders for the overall, with Dusty McDonald and ISDE riders David Rhodes and Jason Dahners close behind. In the Plus-3D division, McClain found a much tougher road to the overall after Tom Bevart bested him in the heat race. McClain came back strong, though, taking the main event win over John Hodges, Beva~t, Jason Marshall and Jesse Buckely. The 51cc Auto Stock class saw Tyler Fick going I-I for the overall win. Brandon Layton, Jeremy McNeil, Kyle Harris and Levi Huffman battled all morning long, and finished in that order during the final. Plus-50 National Champion Jim Lampkin and Canada's Gene Clark put on some of the best action all day in the Senior Plus-40 class. Oark got off to an early lead over Lampkin, but Lampkin caught him and won the overall. The 125cc C division featured qualifiers to trim the field to 23 riders. Cory Fuller and Scott Cook won their respective heats, and Yamaha-mounted Fuller blitzed to the main-event win over Travis Gage arid Travis Ross. Derek Jasper and Lowell Fretz rounded out the c:N top five. FEB. 7 Nearly 200 riders from nine slales and South Africa witnessed Mark Bamettlopping the 250cc A class at the opening round of the Florida Molocross Club Series held at Orlando Motocross Parle. Riding a borrowed CR250 after having problems with his Suzuki, Barnett nailed the holeshot in the first molD, only to be passed by a high-flying Mike Katin. Tom Deguise, Todd Gardner and Gary Semics followed. Gardner made short work of Deguise, then railed the inside of a tum to lake Barnett. Kalin, Gardner and Barnett began to pull away from the pack, as Semics passed Deguise. Over Ihe nexl few laps, Gardner and Barnett swapped positions several times, until Barnett made a pass for sec· ond place on the fifth lap. Gardner then experienced bike problems and dropped of! the pace. Semics and Deguise capitalized on Gardner's misfortune and moved into third and fourth, respectively. Barnett continued to hounded Kalin, then stuffed him with two laps 10 go. Barnett rode to victory ahead of KaHn, Semics, Deguise and Gardner. Kalin blasted into the lead to slart the second moto, as Barnett, Gardner, Deguise and Semics dodged his roost. Semics doubled by Deguise, while Katin and Barnett put ground between themselves and Gardner. Barnett dove under· neath Kalin in a tum 10 lake the lead, oniy to have Katin lake it back.
