I also appreciate the difficulties promoters face these days and their need to make a profit, but $55 for a race day ticket purchased at the gate? I was looking forward to attending the race with a group of friends but I now doubt Mr. Roberts and friends will see us there. We will be waiting for the following week's Cycle News to read about the action. Times are tough and these prices are out of reach for my entertainment budget, even for the GP. I wish Kenny and Co. luck but wonder if his proposed price structure is necessary. 16 RESULTS • JamesZack San Francisco, CA 47 The price of a road race Grand Prix "sanction" is reportedly $1 million. (m1i]~ America's weekly motorcycle newspaper Volume XXX Mea culpa In my letter published in the January 27 issue, I incorrectly identified the announcer of the Orlando Supercross as Bob Hannah. The announcer was actually Larry Naston. After reading my letter, Larry took the time to call me and explain that his remarks were not meant to dow'ngrade any of the riders in the main events. I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to Bob Hannah for this error. I was embarrassed for Stanton. The second big problem was the intermission entertainment. Who were those "warriors" idiots? I thought promoters were trying to take this kind of image out of supercross. It is supposed to be a family event these days. Is having a bunch of steroid-pumped morons throwing people to the ground what we really need our kids to see? What happened to the Pee Wee riders? That is the entertainment our kids need to be exposed to. That is the kind of entertainment that helps to promote supercross, not the trash we were subjected to at Anaheim. On a lighter note, Jeremy McGrath's ride was great! How come he managed to pass Stanton for the win and all Damon Bradshaw could do was whine . about how the track was a "joke?" Chill out, Damon. Everybody was once a little guy Cooper fan I understand that this is Guy Cooper's last season. I had the chance to see him in Indiana at last year's Hoosier Dome Supercross. He didn't have a very good night but he signed an autograph for me outside of his box van in the rain. I really appreciated that. I didn't get the chance to talk to him because of the rain, even though nobody was around. I was wondering if there is any way I could get his address. I would really like to write to him. I hope he wins at least one Camel Supercross before he retires. Don Jordan Farmington, MO It is generally accepted that a lapped rider will attempt not to hinder the riders coming up to lap him, but it should also be remembered that the lapped riders are, as Alan Jackson correctly points out, also racing for points in the top 20. Such is the talent gap, particularly on short supercross tracks, that they are often even racing for top 10! I find the attitude of Bob Hannah to less talented riders totally reprehensible without them there would be only a dozen riders in the race and everybody was a little guy at one time, even Mr. Hannah. And without sales to these less talented riders, whether they be young, old or just plain slow, Mr. Hannah would not have been paid such huge salaries! The Anaheim Supercross was the first one I've ever been to and I loved it. r m just subscribing to Cycle News now and I am going to go to a lot more races. Is there a way I could write to Jeremy McGrath, Damon Huffman, Guy Cooper, Mike Kiedrowski, Jeff Matiasevich and Damon Bradshaw and have them write back and send an autographed picture? Alex Hodgkinson Dortmund, Germany Jessica Seamount North Edwards, CA The Champ Perhaps you should consider giving Bob Hannah a job as a writer for Cycle News. He sure has a way with words, much like another hero of mine, Muhammad Ali. They are both still the "Champ" in my book. Loyal Truesdale Studio City, CA Guy Cooper, c/o Team Suzuki, 3251 E. Imperial Highway, Brea, CA 926216722... Editor. Autograph seeker Although the best way to get an autograph is to do so at a dealer open llOuse (we list them in our In The Wind section) where the racers are appearing. You can also obtain autographs in the pit area at Supercross events, either prior to or after the race. By mail, send your requests to Team Suzuki's Cooper and Huffman at the address listed with the previous leiter. Leiters for McGrath should be sent to Team Honda, 1919 Torrance Blvd., 'Torrance, CA 90501, and letters for Bradshaw to Team Yamaha, 6555 Katella Ave., Cypress, CA 90603...Editor. Notes from the Big A After a ttending the Anaheim Supercross, I have to say that it was a disappointment. First of all, what was the deal with the opening ceremonies? Last year's introduction of the top five riders (with the lights out and only a spotlight on them) was incredible. Wha t fan doesn't like to see Jeff Stanton doing a one-handed triple in the dark? I don't think they wanted to see him on a crane Letters to the editor should be sent to Cycle News, P.O. Box 498, Long Beach, CA 90801-0498.
