Jeremy McGrath was the winner of the fastest heat races at rounds one and two, and Mike Kiedrowski was fastest at round three, but they failed to win the main events at their respective races. The bonus now stands at $4000 for next week's fourth round in the Sea tHe Kingdome. Team Yamaha's Damon Bradshaw, Jeff Emig and Doug Dubach will be at Federal Way Cycle Center in Seattle, Washington, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 29, to sign autographs. Steve Morehead has put together a deal lor a Harley-Davidson 883 to take part in the $10,000 Daytona Challenge. "Daytona has always been good to me," said the "Findlay Flyer" of the upcoming February 26-March 7 Camel Motorcycle Week. "1tI past years, I've won a good bit of Dirt Track Achievement Award money in the Daytona 200. This year the bonus money has been shifted to a combined 883 dirt. track and road race program so 1 worked out a deal to get an 883. U's going to be different racing an 883 on the dirt, I can tell you that." Kevin Hines, who finished fourth in last year's AMA National Championship Enduro Series as a Team Husqvarna rider, will, once again, sport Husqvarna colors for the 1993 season, but will ride a 250cc two-stroke, rather than the 350cc four-stroke he rode last year. "I really liked the four-stroke," said Hines, "but everyone else is riding 250cc two-strokes this year, so I thought I would too." Hines, the 1987 National Enduro Champion, has also been named as Husqvarna's race team manager. Fred Hoess, another former ISDE "Top American" is the team's manager. Road racer Nancy Delgado will once again team up with Rapid Fire Racing's Letha Jeffers and Cathy Creighton on an all-female endurance team in 1993. The team will be backed by New York Motorcycles with the Delgado-led team riding Yamaha FZR600s. Delgado will also contest the WERA Formula III series riding a Jim Doll-owned Honda RS125. . Speaking of Husqvama, the company is featuring six factory-backed and eight support (regional) team riders for the 1993 off-road season. Starting with the factory riders, Kevin Hines will concentrate on the National Enduro Series and ISDE Qualifiers; Duane Conner will contest the National Hare Scrambles and Grand National Cross Country Series; Kelly Getz the National Enduro Series; Mike Young the Sound of Thunder Four-Stroke National MX Series and selected National Hare & Hound events; Don Griewe the National Hare & Hound Series, and Dan Nielson ISDE Qualifier Series. Support riders include Dan Harte, Eric Mashbir, Steve Chapkovich, Nolan Knight, Shad Ricketts, Kemp Stuart, Tom Ebersol and Russ Steams. AMA/CCS Endurance Champions Fastline Racing has hired Michael Barnes to team with Jeff Heino for the 1993 season. Tommy Lynch, who teamed with Heino for the 1992 championship-winning effort, has inked a deal to ride for Two Brothers Racing in '93. Barnes rode for Team America in 1992. Dunlop will be the official tire sponsor of the 1993 AMA Arizona Superbike Challenge, the opening round of the 1993 AMA National Championship Road Race Series, scheduled for February 12-14 at Phoenix International Raceway in Phoenix, Arizona. Tickets for the season opener in Phoenix are available at all Dillard's Box Office locations in Phoenix as well as the Phoenix International Raceway downtown ticket office at 1313 N. 2nd St., Suite 1300. Jeff Russell, the 1991 National Enduro Champion, and Kelby Pepper will make up KTM's official enduro team for 1993, while Jack Lafferty, Alan Randt and Alan Gravitt will head KTM's support team effort. In the desert, KTM's official National Hare & Hound team is made up of Greg Zitterkopf, Destry Abbott, Todd Hoy and Scot Harden. Suzuki is fielding a three-man off-road team for the 1993 season. Four-time National Enduro Champion Randy Hawkins and 1991 IS DE "Top American" Steve Hatch will focus their attention on the AMA National Championship Enduro Series and ISDE Qualifer Series, while last year's ISDE Top American in Australia, Rodney Smith, will campaign the entire AMA National Championship Hare Scrambles Series, as well as the !SDE Qualifiers. "I've been riding a lot - a golf cart," said defending National Enduro Champion Randy Hawkins. "Actually, I never ride (motorcycles) all that much during the off-season, but I've been doing a lot of testing with Suzuki lately and we've got the bike (RMX25O) working really, really good. I guess I'm just waiting for the, Jan Hrehor, the Czechoslovakian rider who won many AMA National off-road events last year, recently returned to the u.s. and will be Yamaha's sole official off-road rider in 1993. Last year, Hrehor was a Team Suzuki rider and made his home while staying in the U.S. with teammate Randy Hawkins. Despite jumping ships, Hrehor will, again, stay at Hawkins' South Carolina home. "It doesn't matter at all that I'm with Suzuki and Jan is with Yamaha," said Hawkins. "We've been practicing together and everything. There shouldn't be any problems." As expected, California Senator Dianne Feinstein introduced her version of Sena te Bill 21, the California Desert Protection Act, on January 21. The bill is nearly identical to now-retired Senator Alan Cranston's bill of the same name and number. 521 carries the names of 22 cosponsors, including California Senator Barbara Boxer. Also introduced on January 21, which was the opening day of the 103rd Congress, was a companion House Bill, HR518, that is very similar to 521. The bill was introduced by Richard Lehman, and has 15 cosponsors. The primary complaint against both 521 and HR518 is the negative effect that they will have on the already-hurting Callfornia economy, so readers who are opposed to the bills are urged to write their local newspapers to complain about this issue. Round three of the GFI Winter North Series, which was rained out, has been rescheduled for Sunday, February 14 at Hollister Hills ORV Park in Hollister Hills, California. GFI will also run a Saturday event at the same location, though it will not be a part of the series. Call 408/238-8208 for more information. Rounds four and five of the CMC Golden State Nationals, which were canceled due to wet conditions, have been rescheduled for January 30 and 31 at Barona Oaks in Ramona, California. If you have any questions, call 619/2463353. Hap's Cycle Sales, in Sarasota, Florida, will hold an open house from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on February 12, the day before the Tampa Supercross. A new five-race motocross series, the Tucker-Rocky MX Championship Series, will take place at five northeastern tracks. Aftermarket companies, including Dunlop, Maxima, Bell, Tusbaki, Sunstar, Rad-n-Bad, Answer Products and MS Racing, are currently working out their involvement thwugh Tucker-Rocky, but the total contingency and purse payout is expected to exceed $100,000. The series will get underway on March 28 at Powerline Park in New Egypt, New Jersey, and subsequent rounds will take place at Walden Playboys in Walden, New York, on April 11, at Hurricane Hills Sports Center in Clifford, Pennsylvania, on June 6, Broome-Tioga in Binghamton, New York, on July 25, and at Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey on July 25.
