ON.TUCK PROMODONS PRESENTS Canteen-sponsored Hamel, ,who admitted that the gran prix format isn't his favorite. "1 don't like the round and round races. I think my biggest advantage in racing is my ability to read the terrain, and here, after one lap, everyone has the same advantage. Hare and hounds are a lot better for me." Zitterkopf, who galloped home to claim second overall, was not happy with his finish, even though it earned him $679 for first place in the 250 Pro class. "It wasn't a 250cc course at all. If I had a 500, I could've won it overall maybe. I was way slower on this," he said, pointing to his KTM/Thor / Duralube/Shoei/Dunlop/RK/Sinoco/ White Bros./Ceet/Renthal/IMS/ Acerbis/FMF/PEP-backed KTM 250. "One good thing happened though 1 finally bea t Roeseler in a race. I'm .happy about that." Roeseler streaked home just half a minute behind Zitterkopf on adjusted time to take third overall and second 250cc Pro. The seasoned rider reported little trouble with the terrain. "Down towards the river bottom there were a couple of fields that were pretty slimy, but it was nothing like the races in the East," Roeseler said. "Everything went great and 1 had a good time." Fourth overall went to a pleasantly surprised Destry Abbott. "1 didn't expect to do this good. 1 was surprised to see the results," said the Open Pro KTM pilot. "1 rode with Dave Ondas for a while, but most of the time 1 just rode by myself and tried to keep a pretty good pace." Davis came back from his lap three dry ta nk and grabbed fifth overall at the checkered flag, and Staten took advantage of Harden's lack of gas to take sixth overall and the Over 30 Pro honors. "This stuff is a lot of fun - so much fun that I'm going to ride the whole series," said Staten. Harden finished two places back behind qndas to take second in the Over-30 division, and Ashcraft was just 18 seconds behind in third. Mike Sixbery, who was locked in a close ba ttle for the Over-38 Pro lead until Steve Pitts ran out of gas in the final lap, dashed home in 26th overall at the head of his class. "This is my first race in more than two years. When you turn 38, you have to come back," said Sixbery, who took the win on a 250cc Yamaha. "I'm pretty sore. I never knew how ou t of sha pe I was until now." Pitts made it to the finish line in time to claim second Over-38 Pro in 34th overall. Hu ky pilot Jamie Campbell topped the 125cc Pro racers in 32nd overall, almost 30 places ahead of his nearest rival, while Kadlec's comeback attempt put him at the head of the Expert field in 12th overall. "1 just drove around and had a good time," Kadlec said. "1 gave up racing after J found out you can make more money if you work at McDonalds, but J had a good time today. 1 think 1 was ready to start racing again." l"N Results O/A PRO/EX: 1.
