clearly the dominate rider of the race, however,
Mink would always negain some ground for his
teammate Czerniski. But at the end of the 90minute plus one lap race, Russell had again built
up a SO-yard cushion and easily blitzed to the
finish.
The jason Cobb and Gnegg Conroy team was
disqualified after losing their ribbon and after
finishing third in the Open class.
john Albro rode his battered '83 CRSOO - the
same one he won the Vet class at the recent
ADRA Sonoyta-to-Rocky Point race - and teaming uR with Gary Rose won the Vintage class. "It
runs real good on these smooth wide-open
courses. It only cost $15O!" Albro said.

Weitz win series warm-up at
Moto West Motocross
By J.R. Canaguier

HOLUSfER, CA, DEC. 2D
Moto West MX saw a flurry of action in today's
125 and 250cc Beginner classes. In the 2S0cc
class, Craig Weitz emerged victorious with 5-1
moto finishes, and Scott Heyward eamed the
12Scc class win.
The first 250cc moto would see three different leaders throughout the race with jeremy
Williams ending up on top. After a miserable
start, Weitz could climb no higher than fifth.
Weitz had it much easier in the second moto
by charging into the lead on the third lap and
holding on for the win and overall. Mark
McNutt, who finished third in the first moto,
landed fifth in the second go around, but it was
good enough for second overall. Williams had a
tough time in the second moto, ending up fifth
overall.
Twenty·three riders went at in the 125cc
Beginner class and Heyward was the top gun.
Bryan GiU was the runner-up, while Richard
Fijardo finished third.

GlLA BEND, AZ, JAN. 3
Bobby Russell and Will Munday teamed up for
the Top Secret Gran Prix and whipped the field
at Wniplash Motorsports' Gila Bend four-mile
long desert course. Rlders swapped every lap,
hand ing off a ribbon and, if they desired, changing bikes.
The early morriing rain left the track loamy,
benny, and totally dust free - and ultra fast as
USA Sports' Russell had to battle with Steve
Czerniski on every lap while Munday got to go
wheel-to-wheel with Ted Mink. Russell was
