Harrel hammers Willow
Springs Road Race
By Eric Vincent
j(OSAMOND, CA, DECEMBER 1&-20
Paul Harrell captured his third straight
Toyota/Dunlop/Del Amo Motors/Miller High
Ufe Formula One Grand Prix victory during the
final round for the Willow Springs Motorcycle
Club at Willow Springs International Raceway.
The race proved to be one of the most exciting of the day with some oUlStanding competitors lining up on the grid to start the race,
including Harrell, Chuck Graves, Nick lenalSch,
Bruce Tebo and Jim Van Vegten. The only top
contender missing was 1992 class champion
Robert Miller.
Graves got an excellent start on his
Valvoline/Suzuki-sponsored Suzuki GSXRll00,
but was quickly joined by Harrell and lenalSch.
Coming out of tum five on the first lap, Harrell
moved inside Graves and grabbed the lead on
his Attack Racing-sponsored Suzuki GSXRll00.
Unwilling to relinquish the top spot, Graves
twisted the throttle and moved past Harrell. As
the leaders completed the first lap, it was Graves
out front with Harrell, lenalSch and Bruce Tebo
following.
Harrell and Graves continued to dice for the
lead over the next few laps, with Ienatseh and
Tebo maintaining a constant presence at the
front of the pack. Coming down the front
straight to start lap eight, Graves suddenly
slowed and pulled off the race track. The problem proved to be a broken crankshaft, preventing Graves' return to the race.
Graves' exit left Harrell with the lead, Tebo
in second and lenalSch running in third. Tebo
took advantage of the opportunity ~y closing up
and passing Harrell on his Gary McDonald
Racing-sponsored Suzuki GSXRll00. Several
turns later, Harrell moved around the oulSide of
Tebo and regained the lead.
Tebo quickly came under pressure from a
hard-d>arging lenalSch, who was riding a Pirate
Radio/Del Amo Motors-sponsored Yamaha
TZ250. lenatsch managed to pass Tebo in the
tighter comers of the race track. With only one
lap left, Harrell held the lead with lenalSch second and Tebo third. Going into turn two,
Ienatsch rapidly dosed on Harrell, moving
alongside and then passing. Harrell used his
GSXR's horsepower to ilS full advantage in the
back straight to move pastlenalSch and retake
the lead Despite another attempt by IenalSCh to
pass him, Harrell held on to capture the race
win, leaving IenalSch in second and Tebo third.
In the Maxima Racing Oil/Coors Light
Formula Two Grand Prix, Andy Milton held the
lead for much of the race on his F &: L Fuelssponsored Honda CBR600F2, but Ienatsch was
ever-present in second, seeming to pace Milton
and wait for an opportuntity to pass. Ienatsch's
opportunity came on the final lap, and he
passed while going through turns eight and
nine, moving into the lead and holding Milton
off long enough to take the win.

second and third places respectively, and quickly advanced to the front of the pack. No more
than two seconds separated the two, but Phillips
was able to maintain his advantage to the finish.
In moto two, Phillips again took the lead
when Batey slipped in the mud and went down.
Batey remounted and began to pressure Phillips,
hounding him for: the entire race. They battled
from turn to turn, and on the final circuit of the
six-lap moto, Batey put.a block-pass on Phillips
and took over the lead. Phillips pressmed Batey
through the last few turns. The two riders tied
on points, but Baley's second·moto win gave
him the overall victory.

BRENlWOOD, CA, DEC. 13
Renthal/ AXO/ Any Rider Kawasaki-backed
Danny Paiadino scored the wins in both the 250
and 125ee Pro classes at Sandhill Ranch.
Paladino and Jon Nicolaus scrambled up
Godzilla Hill, dicing for the lead as the first
250cc Pro moto began. Nicolaus stayed in con:trol for a few laps but Paladino eventually
slipped by and into the lead. Suzuki-mounted
Jimmy Clay was on the gas and advancing
through the pack, but he hit a nasty rut in the
late laps and crashed to the back of the pack.
Nicolaus began to fall back, leaving Tyler
Hummel and Josh Boykin to battle for runnerup spot. Boykin made a strong challenge but
Hummel was able to secure the second-place
spot at the finish. Greg Allen placed fourth with
Nicolaus rounding out the top five in the mota.
Clay was ready for action as the gate
dropped to start the second moto, and he pulled
the holeshot ahead of Allen, Hummel and
Dustin Bloomfield. Paladino roosted into the
lead early on and stayed there for the win and
the overall, while Hummel had to retire after
jamming his ankle. Clay was able to secure second place by the checkered nag, earning fourth
overall. Nicolaus rode to a conservative third
place, good enough for second overall.
Paladino held off Clay both times out in the
125cc Pro class to claim the overall, while
Hummel finished a strong third in the first outing but was hampered by his injured ankle in
round two. Oay had to settle for eighth place in
moto two and fourth overall. Mark Meyers came
back from a fifth place in moto one to holeshot
the final moto. He hung tough after a crash to
finish in third place and third overall.
Troy DeHerrera started both Vet
Intermediate motos at the front of the pack, but
Eric Harvey powered into the lead to take the
win each time out. After a fourth-place finish in
the first moto, Steve Piattoni finished a dose second in the final moto to claim second overall.
Aaron Cheselske was able to slip by Kevin
Gonzales late in the first 80cc Novice moto to
score the win, while Shawn Z3zo Toasted to
third. Cheselske slipped to second place behind
Tyler Evans in moto two, but his consistency
