Alon $ahar made his comeback ride a memorable win in the CaliIo(nia Racing Club's Vet Novice class at Starwest Supercross Park. The Yamaha rider had been recovering from injuries received in a crash, and chose the Starwest race to make his reappearance on the MX scene. The track was well groomed and in excellent condition for the CRC's monthly visit to the. facility, and exceHent drainage meant that the recent rains had little effect on the course. When the gate fell for the first moto of the Vet Novice class, Steve Schrobsdorf led the pack into tum one, leaving behind Alex Spinelli, who had grabbed a little too much throttle off the start pad and had looped out his new YZ250. Behind Schrobsdorf came Sahar and Ron Northup, with Spinelli back up and underway after his earlier mishap. For the first couple of laps, Scnrobsdorf kept everyone a few bike lengths behind. On lap three Sahar and Northup both began dearing the back double and quickly closed on the leading Schrobsdorf, leaving Craig Bryson and Spinelli behind, As the laps clicked off Sahar began to inch up behind Schrobsdorf, and with two laps remaining he pulled up alongside the leader. Schrobsdorf held the inside line and the lead, heading Sahar through lapped traffic and openjng up a comfortable lead to the checkers. Northup finished a lonely third, while. Spinelli edged out Bryson for fourth place just before the flag. ' Moto two saw another Schrobsdorf holeshot, with Sahar and Spinelli breathing down his neck. Northup had not gotten the start he needed and was at the back of the pack. As the riders hit the back double jump, Northup passed Bryson in the air for fourth and closed on Spinelli, Spinelli wasn't about to give up third place as held off t~e Suzuki of Northup, until they hit the whoops late in the moto and Northup doubled his way into third place. At the front of the pack Schrobsdorf had his hands full, as Sahar knew that the overall was at stake. Lap after lap Sahar tried various lines, but the leader remained on the faster inside line and held off his charges. Sahar saved his best line for the final lap, closing to Schrobsdorf's rear finder and making his move for the lead in the esses. The two riders went at it to the checkered flag, but Sahar took the win. Northup was only a short distance behind after getting by Spinelli late in the moto, Results 60 «(}.8): 1.
