The speed th en jumped lO 18 mph. Located at 46.4 miles o u t, was th e first of two tie-brea ker checks. Several rides dropped o ne point, bu t most dropped several. At 46.5 miles there was a reset wh ere th e special cou rse riders cu t off a nd retur ned to th e ca mpgro und. O nce th e specia l co urse riders cut off, the fu n bega n lor th e A and B riders. The speed averages were raised to 24 mph a nd the test section began with the second tie-breaker check located a t 57.2 miles out. Alter th e test sectio n th e rid ers conti nued approxima tely 21 mi le> at 20 mph o n open trail s back .to the campground , wit h th e last chec k located near the campground. Mosley faced a lu ll gate, th anks to a good tu rn o ut 01 compe titors at Riverfro nt Park. MOlO o ne started poorly lor Mosley, wh o emerged from me Iirst turn back in ni nth place, The holesho t went to Lee Davis, with J ames Burnell in seco nd and Ni ck Northrop third. Mosley worked hi s way through the pa ck, and by lap two was lirmly in filth. Burnell grabbed the lead lrom Davi s, but held lirst o n l y briefly before reti ring. Davis resumed the lead , with Jason Bign er now in seco nd, and Northrup third. O n the Iinallap, Mosley made a move on Northrup, th en passed Bigner ·to grab second at the checkered Oag, just seco nds behind fim-place Davis .
