Feel were flyi n g as Huey led with Ro bbie Po well and J osh Jenkins knocki ng at his back door. Powell co m m itted a n erro r o n lap two and J en kin s q ui ckly moved past lO cha lle nge Huey. Lap th ree was wher e the baili e hea ted , as th e lead ri ders were ru nning side by side. Huey cou ld not handle the pr essur e and finally ran off the tra ck, with Jenkin s jumpi ng into th e lead as Huey dr opped back to eigh th . Schwam a nd Bra nt reacted sim ulta neously as the star ti ng tapes were triggered, an d dove sid e by side into th e first tum with Bran t gai ni ng th e edge, Schwa rtz had to stay wid e to avo id him a nd was slo wed by th e heavy dirt. The Speedway Sidecar main event brought th e cro wd to ilS feet with a rousing series of lead changes and daring moves. The team of veteran driver Peter Lewi s and young pa ssen ger Jam ie Macy, both from New Zeala nd. drove their machine from th ird to first p lace in th e spa n o[ five laps. The six- lap main originally featured th e team of Ross Miller/ Dal e Lead er in an earl)' lead wit h Do n Partain/ Mark Adams in second. but some [in e laps and a daring div e unde r lhe field to cap ture the preciou's inside pole po sitio n sealed th e Lewis /Macy victory . It was apparent that McDonald knew tim e was ru nning out, as he
