Hummel was on the ground wh en th e first turn cleared . but he quickl y remounted and began his charge through th e pack. Holland pulled 0(( th e track a ' th e end of the first lap with a broken brake ca liper. Hummel wor ked his way up to third whil e j eflery Brow nlee was in seco nd, making up grou nd o n Pestan a. Pestana go t th e signal that Brownlee was closing, and fou nd som e extra speed. Bro wnlee began '0 tire, lettin g H um mel by and sell ing the top th ree (or th e end of th e rnoto . Holl an d was not able to repair his caliper in time for the second mo to, and had to sit it o ut. Pestan a once again pu lled the holesh o t, but Hummel was rig ht on his tail, de term ined to give the Suzu ki pilo t a run lor his mo ney. . H um mel even tua lly began to fade, bu t found new lile at the three-quarter mark of the race, closi ng o n Pestana and pressuring (or th e lead.
