Rob Damron a nd j ake Zempke were th e twp riders tha t tan gl ed. wit h Zemp ke goi ng down. O n the restart. Key led the freig ht train of riders th at raced towa rds turn o ne. Damron cha llenged Key th rough o ut the remaining laps, bu t to no avail. Ro n Brown pressured Dam ron an d finis hed a close third aboa rd his Ya maha, while Andy T resser and Kenny Robert s j r. rounded o ut the top five. At th e start of the Open A mai n, Tresser, Damron and Brown were th e first thr ee riders to exit tu rn two and hed do wn the back straigh t. Ro\>erts and Key were in ho t pursuit. It o nly took Ron Yamamot o thr ee laps to sail into th e lead, and hold 6ff the likes of Mickey Fay and Dan Stanley to earn the win in the co mbi ned Junior and Expert ma in at the 38th Annual Boise Tr, held a t th e Ow yh ee M.e. Cl ubgrounds . Fay and Stanley tried repeatedly to stea l th e lead, bu t Royal Addi son /Dick·s Suzu ki/Custo m T ile-sponso red Yam amoto would n' t budge. In the first heat race, j oe Kopp gra bbed th e in itial lead, but was quickly gobbled up by Yam a mot o. Rick Hocki ng and T risha Lyon s battled over the thi rd transfer spo t. with Hock in g getti ng the edge a t th e checkered flag . Yam amot o scored th e win ahea d of Kopp a nd Hocking. The th ird a nd final heat was a Sta nley sho w, as the Lo u Kinni sh-backed rider led Ricky Hen so n and Fay across across the fini sh line and in to th e main even t. Del Senitzer a nd Ra nd y Roose ba tt led th ro ug ho u t the sem i final , with Scniuer scor in g th e wi n. Bot h riders ear ned trips to th e mai n event. The trophy das h was all Yamam ot o's, as he blasted to an easy win over Fay, Henson a nd Strong. _ In the ma in. Sta nley and Brown were the quickest 10 the first turn, foll owed by Fay, Yamamoto and Kopp. By lap two, Yam amot o had zapped Brow n and began to pressure Sta nley. It too k Yamamoto only o ne lap to find IllS way past Sta nley, and from there the lead was set. Fay sn uck past Sta n ley to finis h second , whil e Hock ing also found his way pas t Sta nley to nab th ird. Ron 's brot her, Russ, mad e it a Yamamoto sweep as he scored the win in th e Pro-Am ma in even t. The o ther Yama moto grabbed the ho lesho t at th e start or the fin al and was never ser ious ly ch a ll en ged for the lead. Spring Motocross Series held th is weekend at Western Reserve MC Club, and Ben Kohler had to wo rk for his 125cc C class victory . Bryan Bell inger got the holeshot in mot a on e ahead of Chuck Wilkinson, Kohl er and Jim Martinis. Wilkinson became a victim of the muddy tra ck conditions and handed Kohler second. Bellinger and Kohler ba ttled back a nd forth as each rider did th eir best to stay o n two wh eels . After swa pping th e lead three tim es in th e four-lap mota, Kohler took con tro l for good on the fin al lap. Bellinger held seco nd, fini shing 15 seconds behind Martinis went unchallenged to finish third Mik e Ruffner and Gary Lemon trailed in fourth and fifth , respectively. , 1 Track condi tio ns continued to deteriorate as a ligh t misty rai n fell during mot o two, and Kohler motored into the lead only 10 find himself in 10th pla ce a t th e end of lap on e as he fell in a deep mud crossing. Martinis held th e lead briefly before Wilkinson too k over the top spot. Lem on took hold of th ird ahead of Ruffner. Scorin~ became difficult and the riders began yeJhng their numbers to th e scorekeepers. Martinis and Lemon both passed Wilkinson to take over the top two spots. Lemon had little problem navigating the ra in -rutted tra ck as he powered into the lead as the white flag carne out. Wilkinson worked his way around Martinis as Kohl er motored into fourth. Lemon took the win with Wilkinson trailing. Martinis finished third ahead of Kohler and BeJlinger. In 250cc B actio n, C..!. Klein got th e hol eshot in moto one and went untouched in the four-lap malO. T y Myers quickly passed Bud Mohr to tak e hold of second with jamie Herman and T on y Marzano dicing for fourth. Klein held a 15-second lead at moto·s end over Myers. wh o had bu ilt up a beuer th an 10second lead o n th e riders behind. Mohr, Herman and Marzano ro unded o ut the top five. In mota two, Klein again led the field of rid ers in to turn o ne with Herman, Allen Mil ar cik and Myers trail ing. By the second turn, Myers had mot ored into second and took th e lead wh en Klein fell in th e deep mud pit. Mil arcik took over second wh en H erman got stuck in the same m ud hole that had claimed Klein. Rob Scou too k over third ahead ' of Marzano . Myers bu ilt up a five-secon d lead as Milarcik di sappeared to midpack. T he treacherous mud pi t clai med Myers a nd Scou too k over the lead. Myers was up quickly and held on to second. an d wi th less than a lap 10 the fin ish , he reclaimed h is lost lead. He too k the checkers fir st. Sco tt was n ext, trailed by Marzano.
