Shively spoils Dickson sweep

second to Gary Shively in th e second 125cc
Expert class mcto.

Dickson finished first o vera ll in th e 125and
250ec Expert classes in his first appearance
of th e seaso n at Sleepy Hollow. Shively, who
had pro blems o n the starting gate in th e first
moto, manag ed to salvage a fourth-place
overa ll fin ish in th e 125cc Expert class.
In the Senior Expert class Dave Wolf skill
and Bob Sore nso n battled o nce more with
Wolfskill clai ming first overall for the day.
In the firs t moto Sorenso n was leading o ut
of th e ga te but was pa ssed by Wolfskill
midway through th e race . Wolfskill fell o n
th e fin ish li ne tu m going in to th e white flag
lap. Sore nso n used th e o pportunity to take
back th e lead and win the fir st m or o,
Wolfskill took th e holeshot in th e second
m oto wi th Sorenson and Cal vin Leinbach
pressing hard th rough th e first lap. Sorenso n
continued to p ressure Wolfskill but was not
able to pass and had to sett le for second
overa ll .
The 25 Plus class was won by Ama teur
George Lis t, Li st rode well and led bo th mo tos
from start to finish .
Rain had fallen steadily on th e trac k all
morning providing a very m uddy surface for
most of th e first rnotos, The l 25cc Amateur
cla ss. wh ich ra n last in th e program, was the
only group that had favo rab le tra ck co nditions
for bo th motos,
In th e first moto, Joe Sh ipton led from start
to fin ish and was followed closely throughout
by Alan Debellis.
In th e second moto Dave Loikits had th e
lead co ming ou t of th e gate and was followed
close ly by Sh ipton and Debellis.
Ship ton a nd Debellis both mo ved to pass
Loikits m idway through th e race. Ship ton
wen t down during the attempted pa ss and
Debellis came out wi th th e lead , the mo to win
and firs t overall in th e class . Shipton was
inj ured in h is fall and fin ished 10th in the
mOlO, but thanks to his wi n in th e first moto
clai med fifth overa ll in the sta ndings .

Lasch aces Adams YSR RR

finis hed off his last race in the Beginner class
by scoring four-straight wins at th e American
Min i Road Race Associ ation's YSR roa d races,
held a t Ada ms Kart T rack.
In th e Begi n ner Stock class, 12 riders lin ed
up for the sta rt, but it was Lasch fir st off th e
li ne in both 10 lap heats . Clearly a ru na way ,
La sch was never cha lle nged for th e lead
pos itio n th roul:hou t bo th heats.
In th e Beg inner Modified class, La sch
ret urned riding a stock YSR. Althou gh racing
a gai nst modified bikes, Lasch di splay ed
su pe rior ridi ng skill s on th e tig h t 14-turn
course. Steve Pach eco was first off the li ne
in th e first heat followed closely by Rick
Rich ards, Lasch and Mark McCo rd . Pach eco
held a com forta ble lead for eight laps, leaving
a w ee-wa y battle for second. On lap w ee,
Lasc h mad e his move on Rich ards and set
his sights on Pa ch eco. G aining gr ound. Lasc h
mad e an ins ide pass on Pach eco o n lap six
and never looked back.
In the seco nd heat, Lasc h had a little mo re
trouble. It was Pach eco, McCord and Lasch
off the line in a dead heat. La sch managed
to gain the lead o n lap two , but was quickly
passed by Pacheco o n lap three. T he lead
swa pped places two more times before Lasch
finally made his mov e on lap six a nd wen t
o n for th e win.
In the Amat eur Stock class , Nyle Scha fhauser won both heats but really had to work
for it . Kevin Leslie and Paul Moure were fir st
off th e lin e in th e eig h t-rider field. Moure
pas sed Leslie on lap four to take over th e lead,
bUl Scha fh auser was o n the move. O n lap six,
Schafh auser made his mo ve on Leslie and
. m oved i nto seco nd , charging o n Mo u re.
Thinking he had th e race won , Moure fail ed
to see Schafha user closi ng fast un lil he was
passed on lap eigh t, givi ng th e wi n to
Schafhauser.
In the Amateur Modified class, Ra y Ossen kop pos ted 2-1 fin ishes to earn the overall win.
In the first heat it -was Bob Vizcarro grabbing
the holeshot foll ow ed by Ossenkop, Kevin
Richards and Chris Castillo . Cas tillo made
Ricky Gardner (2) chased Mike Dyson (471) into nevil's Ridge Raceway's first tum.

However, Castillo developed engine probl em s
o n lap five, putting him out of the race.
Vizcarro was never serio usly challenged and
met the chec kered flag first.
In hea t two, it was Kevin R ichards pulling
a .g rea t hol esh ot for the lead. H ow ever
Ossenkop was ho t o n h is wheels. On lap th ree,
Ossenkop look over th e lead an d went o n lO
the checkered foll owed by Da vid For ce a nd
Kevin R ichards.

Husqvarna -mounted Phelps posted his
secon d overa ll win in a row with I I laps on

between Kawasak i riders Doug Weist and
Scott Rich lasted th e entire race, with Ri ch
stea ling th e win from Weist o n the £inallap.
Keith Wil son was th e winner of th e 200cc
Novi ce class. th e largest class of the da y. Mike
Sm ith won th e popular Vet B cla ss with nin e
lap s. M OSl racers co mpleted eight or mor e laps
th rough th e h ill sides and tight-rutted woods,
and everyo ne was glad to see the chec kered
flag.
