Buddy An tunez blazed to a dou bl e-mote
victory in th e 125cc Pro cla ss at GFI's Super
Sa turday MX, held at Perris Racewa y.
Ryan Hughes led m uch o f the first m oto
while being very closely pursued by Antunez.
At the m idway poi nt in th e race, Hughes
cl ip ped a track side ba nner th at new into the
face of Antunez, wh o managed to untangle
it fro m his helm et, but cau sed it to become
ta ngled in hi s rear wheel. Hughes pulled out
a lead wh ile Ant unez [o ugh t with his machine,
Whe n it all seeemed to be over for Antunez,
Hughes washed o u t his fro nt end and crashed
in a nat hi gh speed turn . Antunez squirted
in to th e lead but Hughes was soo n knocking
o n the back door. On the final lap of th e rnoto,
the two riders battled intently, finish ing sideby-sid e a t the chec kered nag. Antu nez was
given the win , wh ile H ugh es was second i n
fro nt of Willie Surratt, Bub ba Erickson an d
Mike Young.

the Pro Circuit race team for his second moto,

holeshot but was quickl y passed by Hughes.

scoring th e overall clas s win via 1~2 moto
finishes.
Deacon James blasted off the gate to ta ke
the lead in th e first moto 125cc B Mod ified
mot o. The field of tough co mpe titors followed
with fell ow T exan Kurtz and Brook Fluker
in close pursuit. Kur tz and Fl uker battled,
cha nging positions severa l lim es in the firs t
lap wh ile han ging dose to J ames' rear fender.
At th e end of the firs t lap , Kur tz he ld o n
the ga s passing James over the fin ish lin e
jump. Fluker q uickly follo wed, dropp ing
J ames from fir st to th ir d in one j ump and
one corner. Ray Mitc he ll slipped past Dee Ann
Wood and Ma tt Fiel to chaflenge Fluker for
