In the 500cc Expert class th e two heat race winners were Lonnie Pauley and Dam ron. These two riders were expec ted to p U I o n a race-long battle in the to-l ap final but an ea rly-race erro r o n th e pa rt of Pauley pUI him ou t o f the act io n. Tresser in herited the lead a he r Pauley leh th e gr oo ve an d kept his Woods-R otax o n th e fast est part of the race track . Damron came to do battle, and with three laps to go bega n h is at tack 10 take th e lead. On the chec kered n ag lap , Damron en tered tum three on a high line and a t th e apex 0 1 the tum CUI inside lor the das h 10 the n ag. 'Tresser was ab le to ho ld onto the lead and look th e win by half a bike length. In Open Expe rt ac tio n th e o nly heal race was won by Pauley with Tresser second and Damron third. The lin al started with Pauley dashing int o th e le ad with Damron and T ressel in tow . Damron wasted as littl e Lime as po ssibl e and gra bbed the lead away lrom Pa ule y in turn two. Tresser tried (0 make th e same in side pass but co uld n' t get the necessary driv e off turn three to mak e it stick. The finishing o rder was Damron, Pauley and T ressel . A much-improved J eremy Santoro scor ed heat race a nd final wins in th e holly co nte sted 80ce Novice class. The oili er heat race winner was Troy Seay , and the IW battled hard O throughou t th e In-lap li nal. Sea y was o nly a bi ke l en ~ th back a t the chec kers , a nd li n ish ing th ird was A.J. Kirkpatri ck. A pa ir o l win s made Junior rider Bill y Luker very happy. A heat race win in the 250cc J un ior clas s sta rted it all , and Luker came bac k in the fin a l lor a green lig ht-to-ch eckered nag wi n. Chasi ng him was All an McCl ell an. Lu ker had a much ha rder job in th e O pen class . as he co uld o nly m uster a seco nd in th e heal race behind G reg Mill er. T he second hea t race win was tak en by J erem y Twitl. Eakin masters Woodland Vintage Motocross By Clay Light WOODLAND, WA, APR. 5 The opening ro u nd of the No rthwest Vin tage Dir t Ra cing Association's Motocross Series saw Dave Eakin pick up the overall wins in the 125 and 250cc classes at Woodla nd Mot ocr oss Park . In the Pre -'70 class , whi ch ran combined wit h the Over 40 co n testants, John Ulver, ridi ng a 1970 CZ250 sidepiper, took command 0 1 th e Iirst moto and looked well on his way to victory until his thro ttle assembly succumbed to the soupy sand, allowing Jim MeN an nay , also aboard a CZ, 10 take the lead. McNannay stayed in fro nt 10 finis h ahead 01 G reeves rider Ben Ha ll and Honda rider Wade Clark.
