Everts wins Dutch 250cc MX GP
elgian Stefan Everts (Suz) scored the overa ll
win at the opening round of the World
Championship 250cc MX Series in Val kenswaard, Netherlands, April 5. Everts, the 1991 125cc
MX World Champion, wen t 3-1-1 to handily beat
Holl and 's Edwin Evensen (Kaw), who tallied a
1-4-2 co mbina tio n. Rounding ou t the top five
overa ll were Belgian Marnicq Bervoe ts (Yam) 23-7, Holl and's Gert Jan Van Doom (Kaw) DNF5-5 and Sweden 's Peter Johansso n (Yam) 5-7-9.
The o nly America n fin ishing in the top 10
overa ll was 1990 125cc MX World Champion
Donny Schmit (Yam), who ended up sixth after
a 7-9-DNF showin g. Defending cha mpion Trampas Pa rker (Hon) was hampered by poo r starts
and cou ld climb no hi gh er than 12th overall, via
a DNF-6-17 tally. Bobb y Moore (Yam) was the next high est placin g American
in 17th , foll owed by Mike Heal ey in 21st. Mechan ical problems and crashes knocked
former 125cc Nati onal MX Champion Micky Dymond ou t of the top 20 in all
three rnotos.
Everts has a five-p oint lead in the series point sta ndings over Ever tsen , 5550. Bervoets is third with 41.

" I'm glad we can get the timed p ractice
out of the way on Satu rday, " said the
1990 125cc World Ch am pion. " But I
didn't get to sit down and eat all da y."
Donny Schmit, who finished sixth
overall at th e Dutch 250cc series
opener, has been bus y in recent weeks
adapting to his new fulI-factory
Yamaha. "T he factory bike was so
different," said Schmit, who had
grown accustomed to riding a mod ified YZ250in pr eseason races. " I h ated
it at first. I lik e p lenty of power dow n
low , but the new one was all top-end
pow er and th e ha ndlin g wasn't sui ted
to my style. Yamaha worked reall y
hard and the motor is now mu ch mor e
suitable for me wh ile I am getting used
to the handling."

he won the World Endurance Championshi p for Kawasaki Fra nce.
