eSUPERCRaSS AMAAmateur Su~ercross Sl:ries: Round2 I Nearly 400 riders turned out (or the Seattle round of the AMA Amateur Supercross Series, while nearly 3500 sp ectators looked on . Jonas Dunn (5Il) scored wins in all three Intermediate classes. Dunn rules the Kingdome By Brian Barnes SEATILE, WA, fEB. I n front o f a p p ro xi mately 3500 spectators, Hon da- mounted J on as Dunn scored th e wi n in all thr ee Intermedi at e classes at the Seattle Amateur Su percross, wh ich was held the mornin g before the Camel Supercross Series round in th e Sea tt le Kingdome. The WorldSports-promot ed even t attrac ted 397 rid ers, wh ich is the largest turnout ever for the Seattle amateur event. Most classes needed at least one heat race to determ in e th e 25-rid er sta rt line for th e feature races. Dunn's rampage began in the 125cc In termediate class with a heat race win . over Jason Olephant, Stan Sloboda , Rich Collicot and Ben Rhodes. In th e main event, Chris Dineen , Andy Bell , Aric Muse and Devin Roe set the early pace up front. Dunn began working hi s way toward the front after a medi ocre start. He eventually forced hi s way into th e lead and then quickl y jumped ou t to a comfortable ad vantage over the rest of the field. Dunn scored th e win ahea d of Din een and Bell. Lou Ca u lkins and Forrest Transue foun d ope nings aro und Muse an d Roe to finis h fourth and fifth , respectively. I 24 Dunn had a handle on the first 250cc Intermedia te heat race, with Chris Ru ssell the runner-up. The 250cc feature was ano ther easy rom p for Dunn, as lie gra bbed the lead ear ly an d cruised to the win . While Dunn motored away out in front, Ted Devol , Brian Webb , Mike Koehn and Roe fought for second, with Koehn getting th e upper han d on the battle. Devol finished third, wh ile Roe ended up sixth after getting passed by both Brian Webb and Chris Covert. Dunn 's final victory came in th e 500cc Intermediate feature, in whi ch th e Honda rider scored a wire-to-wire victory . The runner-u p was Husabergmounted David Rhodes, who was a member of th e winning U.S. J r. World T eam at the 1991 ISDE in Czechos lovakia. Bruce Issaacs, Rand y Fish er and Larry Hanson rounded out the top five, respectively. Perhaps the most popular class of th e day was the 50cc Aut o Stock class. Twenty-fiv e you ngsters went at it handlebar to handlebar on the Kingdo me track that was speciall y modified j ust for the class. Ryan Co leman looked to be the rider to beat after a strong winning perfo rmance in h is hea t race, but in the final , Co leman fin ished out of the top 20 after arriving at the star ting ga te lat e. This 'left the fin al wide open and it was Kelvin Sh o en wh o took fu ll ad vantage of Col em an 's tar din ess. T here was so me excit i n g ra cin g between many rid ers durin g the fina l laps , but Sh oen sho wed th e way, leadi ng J osh Casper, Ryan Bissend en , Tyler Fick and Kyle H arris across th e finish li ne in tha t order. H onda rid er Mike York left th e Kin gdom e with two wins under his belt in the 125cc Novice and I25cc (1215) classes. . . A total of 66 rid ers turned out to do battle in the 125cc Novice class and after thr ee heats were held to na rrow the field to 25 for the feature, York blew ou t of the starting gat e for th e hol eshot. York had no problems whatsoever pull ing away from the other 24 riders en route to an easy victory . Kelsey Goru m was the runner -up, whil e Low ell Frietz, Zeb Tivnan and Gary Terlecki finish ed third through fifth , respectively. In the 125cc (12-15) division , Stan loboda was expected to give York a ru n for his money after havin g beaten h im in a heat race. Unfo rt u na tely for Sloboda, problems in the feature kept him ou t of top conte ntion. On ce again , it was York leading the way for the win, wh ile Bell , who finished th ird to York in the Interm ediate bout, was the runner-up. Shan e H eberlein finished third ahead of Justin Burlingame and Justin Carrol. Ted Devol got the ball rolling in the Plus-30 class by winning the heat race then goi ng on to win the feature, but he had to figh t for the victory. After the gat e dropped to start the main event, Devol was fifth behind leader Roy Fowler, Chris Berger , Dall as Nyblod and Mike Whal en after roundi ng the first turn. All eyes were fixed on Devol, as he pi cked off riders one by one until he had control of th e lead posi tion. Devol .scored th e win ahead of Nyblod, Fowl er, Berger and J on Mars hall. After the smoke had cleared, it was J ason H anson emerging on the top of the charts in th e 65cc (7-11) feature. Hanson 's main competi tor was Tyler Kavaney, who ended up the runnerup, wh ile Mike Strom, Ryan Col eman and Nate Goe tz rounded out the top five. In the 125 and 250cc Expert classes, Mark Grant look ed to be headed to back-to-hack wins. After scoring th e win in th e 250cc cl ass over Don Boesflug and Brian Ston e, Grant just cou ldn 't hold back a 'hard-charging Ston e lat e in th e 125cc feature. Stone scored the win with Grant fini shing a clo se second . Ron Ray was th ird . In th e highl y com pe titive 250cc Novice class, Jason Mathews nipped runner-up Kor y Ellis for the win , while Allan T erlecki, Dave H ilpert and Charles Downing rounded out the top fi= ~ Results 50 AUTO STJ(: I.
