Ferry devastates Dade City By Mike and Anne Adair DADE CITY, FL,JAN. 18-19 ~e week ~fter a su percross event 10 th e Citrus Bowl , the fourth round . of the Florida Winter AMA Series moved back outdoors to Randy Yoho's Dade City Raceway and it was literally a Timmy Ferry benefit, The 16-year-old T eam Green Kawasaki rider won every moto of 125 and 250cc Pro, and 250cc Amateur Expert class competition in both the rain and sunshine. The Boyeson/RRP/MX Fox/Yokohama /Bel llEK/Bel-Ray / R enthall Sunoco -supported rider said, " I n Sunday's Pro classes the track was muddy, slick and I took falls in both first motos, I learned from my mi s- O 16 takes, slipped around in th e fina ls, but stayed on two wheel s." Ros s Ped erson als o had a goo d weekend as he fini shed second to Ferry in the 250cc Pro class, fourth in the 125cc Pro divisi on and al so swep t th e Vet Pro, +25 Expert and +30 Expert classes. I've worked hard and it feels good to be in the best condi tion that I have ever been this early in th e seaso n." Approximatel y 457 riders enjoyed weather extrem es from Saturday' s warm sunshine to Sunday's coo l drizzle in the White Bros./Twin Air , Pow ermist Racin g Fuels, Dunlop Tires, Scott USA, Cycle N ews, Barrs Competition, Tuf Racin g, Pro Circuit, AXO /Renth ai, Pr o Action Su spens ion, Dirt Shirts, Boyeson Engineeri ng, Chariot T ra ilers, Discount Trophies, MotoSpo rts, Hammerhead Graphics and Rad N Bad -sponsored series event . Vin ce DeVane was the early leader in the first 125cc Pro moto and was roo sting mud on Pat Barton, David Beckin gton and J ohn Kitsch. Ferry str uggled back from an eigh th-place start to reel in and challenge DeVane on lap four. " I got right on Vin ce's butt, slid out and dropped th e bike in a turn," said Ferry. "Timmy came back and was on me aga in," DeVan e exp lained. " I saw the checkered flag 100 feet ahead, but slid ' out in the last turn." Ferry slit hered by and took th e moto win ahead of DeVane, Kitsch , Michael Treadwell and Ton y Loru sso. Rounding out th e top 10 were Barton, Beckington, Hayden Ri chards, Pederson and J eff Curry. Ferry took the holeshot ahead of Lorusso, and Pederson in moto two, mad e no mistak es and cruised to an impressive win. While Ferry romped, Pederson was solidly in second place as DeVane charged back from a jam in th e start to catch Barton and Kurt McMillen and finish in third place. With Barry Carsten absen t from the series, DeVane took over the series points lead in th e class. At the start of th e first 250cc Pro moto, Ferry headed Brian McElroy, Pederson, Chris Coleman, Bart on and Curry. Ferry ope ned up a decen t lead , but McElroy was closing the ga p on h im until he fell. McElro y commente d, "T immy was setti ng a good pa ce, but 1 was gai ni ng on him. I felt capable of catch ing hiim . " Ferry sai d, " I slid out a coup le of times too , but was lucky to not lose an y places." Despite hi s fall , McElroy held his lock on second pl ace behind Ferry with Pederson, Curry and Barton making the top five at the fini sh. Ferry broke away in th e final 250cc Pro moto in the early going and locked up another moto win while McElroy was out of the chase when he was forced to reti re from the race. Pederson he ld off Curry, Treadwell and Josh Steel to finish second. "T he track was slick, but keeping the roost out of your eyes was the hard part," said Curry. Rounding out the top 10 were Earl May, Carl Vaillanco u rt, Jus tin Ja ckson and Alan Andrew. In Vet Pro action, Pederson raced wi th series runner-up Don Grahn in moto one and series leader Andrew in moto two before claiming both wins. Ri cky Palmer, nursing stitches in his knee from a crash in the +25 A class, had to watch the competition from the sidelines. .
