McM ill en used consistent 3-2 mo to fin ish es to win, while Tim Ferry went th e more dominant route in the 250cc P ro class wi th a I-I score. Ch ri s Col eman was the runner-up in both classes. A grand to ta l of 563 rid ers tu rn ed out to ba tt le on th e sa me track th at the factory stars di ced o n th e night before in th e ope ning round o f the AMA Ca mel Supercro ss Series. Su nday's AMA-sa nc tioned, WoridSportspromoted ama teu r supercross even t featu red 25 classes, and a day full of racing tha t didn 't end until three hours afte r the stadiu m 's lighting system was turned on because of darkness. T he first 125cc Pro moto saw Josh Steel grab th e early lead , which he held for th e next five la ps until Barry Ca rsten took over. ' Steel event ually d ropp ed back whil e Col eman, McMillen a nd J eff Curry moved up into th e second, third and fourth place positions. Co leman closed in on Carsten at th e fini sh , but Ca rs ten held o n for a narro w win. Col em an was seco nd , fo llowed by McM ill en , Curry a nd Steel, resp ecti vely. After th e race , Co lema n sai d, " It wa s hard to pass out th ere. I even tried yelling a t Bar ry, but he didn 't make a mistake." T hird-p lace McMillen said, " By th e time I moved up, Ca rsten was too far a head." , T om Welch was th e early lead er in the second moto, bu t it en ded up being Mich ael Tread well's race. The Suzuki pil ot soo n fou nd hi s way to the front a nd was never headed, despite falling once. " I lik e th e sa nd a nd th ought that the sand pit would be a strong point for me," Treadwell sa id. " Instea d, it was the only place that I fel l." McMillen , who clinched the cla ss victory with a second-p lace finish , said, " I closed in o n Treadwell in th e' last turn but ran o u t of time."
