place fini sh . Atk inson finished fourth in front of Jason Simmons. who held off a last lap charge by Anderson to score fifth . Decker seemed to be on a ro ll as he also won the opening 250cc Intermediate moto aft er rid ing much of the race in the shadow of Dan Blackha m . Decker passed Blackham during th e closing moments of the race 10 na rrowly win the moto. Blackha m finished a close seco nd follow ed by Chris Lance and Eri k An derso n. Decker holesh o t the seco nd moto but fell over in th e second tum . handing the lead to Bla ckh am . Whi le th e riders scram bled for the top spots, rain began 10 fall. Blackham rode superbly and 'sm o ked a wa y for a comm an ding victory over Jason Kempel and Chris La nce. Decker charged fro m last to ninth by the end of the rn o to, Lance was un stop pable in the 2529 Intermedi ate cla ss as he scor ed two wir e-to-wire victories. Chris Radz inski closed to with in th ree seconds of Lance in the o peni ng m o to , bu t severe a rm pump cu rta iled h is ch arge. Jeff Scot t fin ished th ir d a fte r Br yan C u rt is crashed out of co ntention while running in th e top three. Larry Lawren ce charged from a d ismal sta rt to fourth by the end of th e rn oto. Lance led from th e drop of the gate 10 the fin ish lin e in m oto two , but th is time Lawren ce fin ished a close second after Radzinski p u t o n a la te-race cha rge that push ed them both within striking di sta nce of La nce . The chec kered flag waved first for La nce follow ed by Lawrence. Radzinski and Scott, David Lynch led the Vet Intermediate class at the sta rt of the first rnot o. Greg Fountain. Ra ndy Skinner , Steve Dalwer and Doug Taft were scra m bling for second with Lawler sho wing dominance by securing second by th e thi rd lap . During the remaining laps Law ler ho unded Lynch by dogging hi m each and every lap to th e finish. Lynch h u ng on to win the moto with Lawler close behind, wh ile Mar k Duval cha rged from midpack to finish third a head o f J im Sa ndel back a nd Fountain. Lynch again powered to th e secondmoto hol esh ot. Lawler had encou ntered problem s in the start and was las t wh ile George Wa llace. Sendelbach. Duva l a nd J im Hanson rounded out the top five. Lynch o pened a marginal lead the n seemed 10 be cruising while picking all th e cho ice lin es a ro u nd the race co urse. At the halfway mark. Du val passed Sendelbach for second then set sai l for Lync h wh o enjoyed a four second lead. Lawler meanwh ile had carved his way fro m last 10 fifth and appear ed to be reeli ng in th e leaders. Du ring the fina l laps Lawler passed Sendelb ach th en Wallace 10 move into th ird. while Lvnch and Duval wer e engaged in a n all :out ba ttle for the lead. Wi th two laps remaining. Duval and Lynch exchanged the lead on th ree occasions wh en Duval spu n out , causing Lynch to crash and beco me tangled in Duval' s H onda . " It was scary. 'm y arm was ca ugh t between his fender a nd rear wheel. I definitel y lost some ski n and the chance to win. " Lyn ch exp lained. With both riders o ut of co ntentio n Lawler scooped up the lead a nd ran with it all th e way 10 the checkered flag . Wall ace finished second a hea d of Sandelbach and J immy Hansen . . Dean Van Rip er and David Hughes ba ttled th ro u g h o u t bo th 125cc Begi nner motos, Van Ri per wo n the first moto but H ughes came back for the all-important second-moto wi n by virt ue of a last-lap pass in a rnoto full of pushing, shoving and bumping. Hughes was pl eased wi th the contin- Bradshaw earned $5000 for winning the 250cc Supercross event.
