On the fifth lap Even s saw the open ing he needed and cha rged un der Ward for the lead. but the decisive mo ment of the race came two laps later. Ward took an outside lin e through the corner before the fini sh jump and the added momentum saw him smash into the rear of Everts as they lan ded. Ward just managed to stay on his Suzuki but the un fo rtuna te Everts stalled. Before Everts could get his machine refired. Ward was clear for the win . Evens had eno ugh of a cus h io n to maintain second to the checkered flag. whi le Vohland kept third desp ite th e efforts of Vehkon en , who had cha rged ou t of th e pa ck.
