On th e filth lap, Will s pa ssed Ph ee for second a nd then gave it his all to ca tch th e lead er, but Will s had 10 sett le for second behi nd H owerton at th e finish. In Sa turday 's a ma teur event, Cl int Latham and Brad Woolsley battled in the 80ec Senior (12-15) class . Woolsey go t th e holeshot in th e lirst mo te with Charley Bogard second and Latham third. Latham cou ldn' t get by Bogard until la p three, and by then Woolsey had a Io-seco nd lead. La tha m mad e up the dilference, however, a nd pulled a longs ide th e leader as they landed lrom a j ump. Woolsey was able to hold Latham o ff and stay ed ah ead to th e checke red flag , Mot a two was sim ilar to th e first as Latham had to fight by Bogard to ge t to leader Wool sey. Ryan T anner led m uch o f th e opening 60cc (0-8) mo to while Faulkner spent the rnot o working up from a poor sta rt. Fau lkner moved past Cal e Nobel midway thro ug h the race then reeled in Ta n ner and passed h im lor the lead two laps from th e fin ish . Faul kn er pulled a way durin g th e remaining laps to score a co n vinci ng win. Faulkner started better in th e seco nd mota and held Tan ner a t bay lor much 01 th e race. T anner turned th e tab les late in th e mot a by passing Faulkner , but Faul kn er came back with a la st-la p pas s to sna tch th e mot a victory. Vegas MX victory to Villegas By Dick Goodwin l.~ VEGAS, NV, OCT. 13 Fra n kie Villegas used a hard-eharging riding style to ca p ture: the 125cc Novia: class win a t Las Vega s Motocross Park. Villegas powered his Suzuki to the front in race o ne, and repealed me feat in th e seco nd sta nza. jason Allen led the Novices off the line in the first rnoto, but Villegas was close beh ind. Villegas lneed his wa y past Allen o n th e tabletop during the firs t lap. As the race progressed, Villegas added to his lead as Glenn Moran came up to challenge Allen for second. Vill ega s waltzed home, but Jason and Gl enn went a t it right to th e end. Aflen edged Moran for second. Greg Hadges cop ped the holeshot i n race two, but Villegas made a fast pass for th e lead. Once ou t front, Villegas turned it up a notch and cruised to an easy win. A three-way do gfigh t for seco nd between Hadges, jason All en , and Glenn Moran went on for most of the race. N ielsen suffered through a frustrating morning. First the bike he had borrowed would not sta rt. then his computer failed. At chec k six , all of the AA riders carried zeros except Scott Lathrop, who missed a re se t and b urned check th ree by three minutes. T he check-in, check-o ut was between six a n d seven. Here. Nielsen carded a fiv e minute, 17 second time, Lathrop 6:30, and Orals a 6:33. With Lathrop down by 12, this kept Tim Mo unt a nd Joh n Moody in the hunt with 6:50 and 8:06, respectfully . At check nine, Moody lost one wi th Orals lo sin g two. Check 10 saw Mount and Drafs eac h drop one. At check I I , Lathrop carried a zero, while the rest 01 th e cl ass dropped one. Checks II and 12 were another checkin, chec k· o u t. N ielsen finished th e even t with a 13 point 10", Orals with a 17, Mount 18, Moody 19, and Lathrop 25.
