Alsobrook aces LACR MX

Brian Alsobrook scored the overall win in th e
l25cc Beginner class during round three of
th e California Racing Club's Tri-Race Series
held at LA. County Raceway, Alsobrook put
together 2-) moto finishes on th e supercrossstyle sand track.
When the gate fell 10 start moto on e. Mark
Libardoni rocketed out to th e front of the
pack. For the first couple of laps, Libardoni
took adva ntage o f an open track but this was
to be only a temporary adva ntage as Scott
Minster, Alsobrook and Phil Messenger closed
the gap.
[n the rocker section, Minster mad e his
move on Libardoni and took command of the
ra~ with Alsobrook pressuring Libardoni as
well. Danny Woodaid made use o f the doubles
to put Messen ger back into fifth . .
Up fro nt, Minster opened up a little bit of
a lead while Alsobrook motored by Lib ard on i,
who was passed by Woodard over the double,
Brian Miller al so p u sh ed hi s wa y pa st
Libardoni and was gunning for Woodard.
Mill er wa tched Woodard's lines 'lnd made hi s
mo ve in the whoops. The top frve remained
intact u nd er the while nag a nd Minster
brought the moto to a close when he too k

At the start o f mo to two, Alsobrook made
it 10 tum one first with Woodard, D.]. Swea ny
a nd Shawn Dol mage in the lea d pack .
Also brook was im med ia tely pressured by
Wo oda rd and picked up t he pace , b u t
Woodard stayed wit h him and the pair began
to leave th ird-place Sweaney behind .
On th e last lap, Woodard closed to Alsobrook's rear fender and uied various lines to
no avail and look a chance in th e rockers that
almost bounced him off his bike. H old ing o n
tightly, Woodard saved it and cruised to th e
finish to tak e second behind Alsobrook.

Berm Benders Motocross

Craig Cunni ng ha m aced the Senior Min i clas s
at the fina l po ints-paying District 23 motocross o f the year a t Berm Bend ers MX. Over
300riders ent ered the vari ou s classes, and so me
o f the traditional year-end Berm Bend er fun
races, such as th e Powder Puff class won by
Michelle G ru ndhofer, were al so held.
. Cunningham surged 10 the front o f the pack
in the first mo ta and ran smooth for an easy
win. Shelly Kann displaced Cory Corcoran on
the first lap to take second and tried to gain
on Cunni ng ham but to no ava il. Corcoran
stayed in third over Keith Johnson for the
duration of the race.
In moto two , Kan n and Cunningham slid
through the fi rst 'urn s id e· by -side but
Cunningham was more aggressive and he
slipped into the lead . Cunningham hammered
around th e track to take the win whil e. Ka n n
fai led to keep pa ce with 'he lead er and finished
seco nd . Co rco ra n a nd J o h nson o nce again
rounded o u t Lhe top four.
Cory Keeney pulled the holeshot in ' he first
125cc A class mo to but slid wid e, allowing
Rob Engstrom to ta ke over the lead. Engstrom
dung to the point for th e first lap, but Keeney
was on the move a nd wh en Engs tro m slip ped
u p Keeney shot into th e lead. Keeney went
on for the win with a good lead ovt"r Eng strom
at the fla~. Jaso n Kem pe l won a duel with
Mike AtkInson to car-ture th ird. David T ait
trailed Atkinson for fifth .
Jay Mercill nailed the sta rt a t the beginning
of th e second molO an d led bri efly befor e
Atk inson passed him befor e the end of the
first lap . Keeney was moving u p and also
dropped Mercill :i po sition by th e end of th e
la p. Keeney closed on Atkinso n, who held him
o ff u nt il halfw ay throug h th e th ird lap wh en
he nailed a po wder berm a nd slid sideways.

Adams has racked up two firsts and a fifth

Ken Arnold was the big winner in the Vet
A class . He was pr essured by Brian \Vesson
throughout the race bu r never gave in. Wesson
was the ru nner-u p, whi le Charles Gi lbert,
Tony Ligon a nd Ken J oyce rounded o ut th e
ra p five, respectively.

The 4th An n ua l New Garden Vintage Trial
wa s th e final poi nts -payi ng even t in the Mid Atlantic Vintage Trial 1991 Series . AMAsanctioned, and ru n under AH RMA Vintage
tri al rules, the event was promoted by the
Corridor Vintage Trials Club.
The wooded, hilly. New Brita in setti ng is
a scenic made-for-trials venue ma t drew 35
co mpe litors - th e largest turnout yet - 10
th e fin al ro und of this 12· ro u nd series . Ri ders
were di vided into eig ht classes and gi ven a
choi~ of three increasing ly difficu lt lines
throughout th e four· lap , eig h t·sect ion trials.
True to the purpose o f such gatherings,
there was as m uch fu n to be had loo king a r,
and listening to, the array o f class ic bikes as
ther e was watc h ing them negot iat e the cou rse.
