Alm ost 200 riders were o n hand for the last race o f the seaso n. A steady rain fell all da y a nd th e second mot os were nor ru n du e to the extre me ly wet co nd itio ns. L ipe Specialty/ Power Mist-back ed Lipe came o ut ahead o f the pack a t the start o f th e 125cc Ama teu r rnoto. Chris Bower wa s next, follo wed by Brian Sq uaires and Dan Singe r. Bower made a crucial m istak e in tum th ree tha t put hi m o ut o f co n tent ion for a top fini sh . Singer made hi s way past Squaires o n lap two. The lead trio were j ust a few bike len gths apart mak in g it ex tremely hard to see. Lipe held o ff Sin ger 's attem p ts to pa ss, until the last lap. Sin ger took adva n tage o f a bobble by Li pe to get into th e lead. Two turns from th e end, th e pair were side-by-side , and a downed rid er wa s in the cente r o f th e tra ck. Singer went to th e in side or th e turn, while Lipe went wid e. The move cost Singer. as he bogged in th e deep mud. Lipe took the win; hi s first in this class. " Whe n I saw the rid er down, I just went for it ," said Lipe, j oh n Gurga do minated the Senior Expert a nd 250cc Expert classe s. jerry Newby kept him hon est in th e Senior class by stavi ng fair ly 'close. T he 250cc class a p peared easrer for Gurga. Brian Croft was second. until he en doed hard o n th e downhill. Den nis Baldwin took o ver second at th is point.
