Voh la nd won both 250cc Pro mo tos for the overall , while Sm ith went 1-2 in the l2 5cc Pro class lO secure th e victory, Coupe ripped into the lead o f the first 250cc Pro moto with Sm ith ho t on h is trail. Coupe held th e lead for a short tim e, until Smith slip ped by. Vohland moved up through th e p ack, making some exciting passes as he went flying th ro ugh th e rocker sectio n . After securing third, Voh land finall y got by Coupe and set out after Smith. The tw~ Suzuki riders set a fast pa ce as th ey di ced for th e lead, but Vohland took contro l of the lead a nd stayed for th e win wi th Smith second and Coupe third. Jeff Pestana held o n for fourth , while Brian Roth advanced to fifth by the checkered. Coupe pulled th e. holeshot a t th e start of moto two, but his lead was short-lived, as Smith, Vohland a nd SCOtt Myers worked by. Myers went down a la p la ter, whil e Vohland assumed the lead ahead of Sm ith. Smi th tr ied lo close in a nd challenge Vohland, but it was not to be, as Vohland held on for th e win a nd the overall. Smith was again seco nd for second overall, whi le Coupe ro de co nsistently to a nother th ird. Myers worked bac k lo fourth , but a first moto DNF h eld h i m to eigh th overall. Pes ta na followed in for fifth and fourth overall while Roth rounded out the top five overall positions. Moto one-of the 125cc Pro class was wi ld. CMC Trans-Cal Series North: Round 3 Vohland, Smith split Sacramento MX wins By Nuklear Neukam SACRAMENTO. CA. SEPT. 24 acra men to Raceway Park hosted round th ree of th e 1991 CMC Trans-Cal North Series. and the Pro class competition was hot and S Voh la nd went down in th e first turn, bu t this only enco u raged h im to click it in to ov erdrive. Whil e Voh land adva nced through th e pack, Smith too k co ntro l o f th e lead. Smith staye d out fro nt for th e win a nd Pestana .followed in second, ahead of Myers. Fourth place went to J on Nelson with Pat Go mm rounding ou t th e top five. Vohlan d worked into a sixth place finish. A bevy of Suzukis battled for the lead to star t mot o two. Eventually, Pesta na gained co ntrol o f th e lead as Smith settled into second. Vohland was close a t hand. Smith took over th e lead as Vohland wo rk ed up lo second and gave chase. Vohland closed o n Smith and th e battl e bega n . For a few laps, the two riders di ced for the lead with Vohland finall y assu m in g control. Smith was quite co ntent to follow in for second a n d secure the ove rall. Vohland finished second overall , with Scoo ter McEl ro y taking a strong third. Nelson was again fourth for fourth overall as Pestana hung on for fifth and earned third overall. It looked like the 500cc Pro class would be all Myers as he ran away to the win in moto one, but another berm biting session in mota two dropped h im to t hird ov er all. All en on ly managed a third in mota one. but the second go-round was all his, as he took the win and th e overal l. In th e Vet Pro class . Co upe motored to both mota wins, and the overall. H e did, however, get a run for his money in moto two from Allen Berl u ti, who fin ished fourth in the first mota. Berl u tti started the second race in the lead, and stayed o ut front for a short time . But once Coupe was aro u nd, Berluti had to settle for second and seco nd overa ll. J eff Watts p u t tog ether a pair o f th irds for third overa ll, while Randy Chapman finished mot a o ne with a stro ng second but had to settle for fourth a nd fourth overa ll in rnoto two. J eff Brownlee handily won bo th 125cc Intermedia te m ot os with J osh Boykin second each time OUt. Stan Finney was third overall. Brownlee had his work cut out for him in the 250ccJntermediate fray. He ended up with the win in bo th rnotos, but Hamilton stayed on his tail all of mota two for a close second. Hamilton was also second in mota one. and claimed the r~nner-up trophy. SCOtt Cowley rode consistently to end th e n ight third overall. . H a m ilt o n was untouchable in the 500cc Intermediate class and topped Bob Riddle in both rnotos.
