Of co u rse, th e sell ing of parts via U PS does present a problem; either ship the items C.O .D. or be paid for the items befo re they are sh ipped . We.ll, I chose C. O. D. and accep ted personal checks, since in 15 years of (being invol ved in ) motorcycling, I never have had a problem wi th th is kind of arrangement - until now. I received several in sufficient fund chec ks and th en th e probl em s really beg an ! I am still trying to get my parts or money back from th ese individuals. A word of warning: when selling motorcycles , p arts, etc. . accep t only ca sh ie r 's checks, money orders, or cash, or you will be sorry. Just th is session we were able to ge t ABATE and the Montana Trail Ve h icle R ider s Assn . together to defeat a bill whi ch would have virt ua lly elim ina ted trailriding on public lands. Forest Service and BLM land managers in this area are well aware of my efforts. I am a p roponen t of increasing gras sroots go ve r n me n t relations efforts on th e local and state levels . I am former motocrosser and hare scrambler. Today du al- sport and trail riding are more my speed. I rode the Bvto-V dual-sport ride a couple of years ago. A recent visit to th e vintage races in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, has me looking for a good 250cc 1974 Can-Am or CZ to go vintage motocrossing with. In my spare time I have traveled almost 400,000 miles on road bikes. The election this year is being contested by at least three members . of Dirt Alert. Since our 'g oals and beliefs are similar, how does one determine wh om to vote for? It takes three or four years for a trustee to learn the ropes and to begin to become effective. Some trustees never become effective. The AMA Board of Trustees is facing very critical issues right now. I am in a position to be very effective right now. I am always one phone call away; (406) 442-0737. I have had very broad support from the very di verse segme nt s of our sport. The AMA is our associatio n, exerci se your right to both nominate and then to vote. The du e dat e for nomination ballots is Octob er I I. Dal Smilie AMA Vice Chairman Helena, MT That old feeling Is i t possible? Is " Product 19" back on th e market after so long? Nothing has thrill ed me, ou tside of 'Kevin Schwantz's wild style, more than th e old Kenny Rob ert s/Freddie Spencer battles of old. And now , according to witness Tom Kipp , h e (Freddie) might be gettin g that " old feeling" back. Now that would be worth seeing l Keepup the great coverage; I can 't live without it . This year, I must congratulate all who were involved in making our s tay (for the AMA National Championship MX ) an enjoyable one. So, you fans who have put orr coming to cam p overnight can now do so and hav e a fun time once again. My personal th anks to Washougal's Ralph Huffman and Bob Leach.
