pack had passed hi m. Wood too k over th e first
spot wi th Lord, Rolan d, Rodrigu ez and Bon ds
in to w. Bonds quickly mad e u p for lost time
on ,h e second lap by bou ncing past Rodriquez
befor e the fro m straight double, and overta king Lo rd in th e back section of th e track.
Meanwhile, Wood 's bik e broke near th e back
do uble, drop pi ng him from th e lead to last
p lace. Bonds stretch ed his lead to a co mfortable margi n for the first mota win followed
by Lord, Rodriquez, Gaumer and Wood.
The second moto found Lord b last in ~ o ut
of the gate and never looking back. Lord
qu ickly pull ed away from Wood, Bon ds,
Rodr iq uez a nd Gau mer to exten d his lead by
five seconds. Wood dropped ba ck to fourth
o n the second lap . while Bonds met hod ica lly
began working awa y towards Lord, knock ing
a second off each la p. It was Lord . ho wever,
who crossed th e finish line first, with Bon ds
on hi s rea r wheel.
Rex Staten , Billy Frank a nd Darrin Hoeft
padded their wa llets with overall wins in the
500, 250 an d 125cc Pro classes. The clo sest
aaion of, the day occurred in th e first 500cc
Pro mo ta . Staten got th e dr op o n th e pac k
at th e start and Frank glued himself to hi s
rear fender. Marc Peters, G regg Young a nd
Gary Sailors foll owed. Frank hounded Staten
la p after la p , with Sta ten answeri ng every
chall enge. T he do gfight betw een Staten a nd
Fra n k pulled th em away from th e pa ck abo u t
fou r seconds pe r lap. Sta ten won the fir st mota
by a bik e len gth over Frank.
