250. During the first few laps, Dalto n opened a comfortable lead, bu t a t midra ce appeared to be tiri ng . By the fourth lap , Beal had closed on Dalton and bega n to pressure h im for the lea d. Going through the rockers, Beal went wide and ra iled the next tum to push Dalton to second. Meanwhile, J usiin Brown passed Ha j:en over the hill jump to steal third. At the finish , Beal took the win wit h Dalton and Brown follow ing in second and third. At the start of the second m o to , Dalton, once again, shot o ut to the early lead . This time Ri ck Benson , who was the victim of a first mo to pi le-up, blew pas t Dalton over the doubles to take the lead on lap two. Once in front , Benso n quickly mo ved away from his purs uers. Beal was the next rider to take the measu re of Dalton , as he started to slide backwards through the field. Once in second , Beal set out after the q uick ly disappearing Benso n . Beal was unable. however , to catc h Benson before the finis h . Ben son loo k the win over Beal and Justin Brown, who passed Dalton just prior to the flag. In the Mmi J u nior class , Den nis Spri ngs too k the early lead in the first m oto on ly to be passed by Jerry H arvey in the rockers. Once in to the lead , H arvey was able to mo ve away from Sprin gs a nd was never cha lle nj:e d. Harvey took the easy win follo wed by Spnngs and J ustin Brown. In the second moto, Spri ngs a nd Harvey were agai n disputin g first place when Sp rings got ou t of shape in the rockers and went down. Brown loo k ad vantage of th e error to tak e over second. Springs remounted in eighth place a nd quickly gave chase. Within three laps he had moved into third, bu t by thi s tim e the lead ing du o were lon g gon e. Yoho dashes to Dade City MX win By Sco tt Shephard DADE CITY, FL, AUG. 17 Kenny Yoho dominated the 125cc B class during 12th round actio n of the DCR 1991 Points Champio nship Series. Yoho, a new rider to the l25cc class, was riding a Honda temporarily, as he awaited the arrival of hi s 1992 Suzuki from h is sponsor, Yama ha / Kawasaki/Suzuki of Lake Wales. 242 rider s co mputed o n the nigh t supercross tra ck. Yoho an d Car l Smallridge drag raced sideby-side to the first turn and di ced on the first lap of the six- lap moto. Tim Everhart, Robert Kong and Vinn y H op per wer e 20 yards behind. Yoho sue tched hi s lead to 30 yards by the third lap, as Everha n bega n to work on Small rid ge. Small ridge fell on a tableto p jump during the ba ilIe, gi ving Everhart an undIsputed second . At the halfway point, Yoh o was smo king the rest of the field , wh ile Everhar t ra n second. Kon g and H opper were dicin g for third an d Jay Ponkey moved into the lead group. Pon key passed Kon g in a sweeper tum on the fourth lap. Yoh o was un conte sted a t the checkered, follo wed by Everhart, Hop per, Ponkey a nd J acob Fogg. Yoho and Ponkey sped off the ga te and diced until the second lap. Ponkey bobbled and let Everhar t by. Chris J oh nson and H opper led a tigh t group of n ders beh ind . Yoho rod e flawlessly to the finish. Everhart , Ponkey, J ohnson and Hopper began to su ing ou t behi nd just aft er the halfway point, and fin ished in that order. Yoho is SIXth in th e po int standi ngs for the DCR Points Champi on ship season . . James Stewar t J r. had to ru n down Ch ill . No rthey in both Pee Wee motos. Northey took both holesh ots but could not overpower th e determined five year old, as Stewar t easily won bo th mo tos. Aaron Perkins' 3-2 fin ishes earned him seco nd overall, while Nort h ey's 2-4 finis hes were good for third. J .D. Verri ll pos ted 4-6 finishes for fourth. Jones AUBURN, CA, AUG. 16 J ess Ochoa brought home h is secon d Scra tch ma in th is season at Auburn Speedw ay, as the points chase for number o ne in northern Cal ifornia tig h tens up with just a few weeks of racing left. At the start of the Scratch main, Och oa sat in gate three, with Bar t Bast in four. Mike Parson s sat on the pole and loo ked to pick up his fir st Scra tch win since May. While Bast got caug h t flin ch ing, Ochoa q uessed righ t and took the lead as the tape s £lew up. Parsons and Robert Curry were ca ug h t nap p ing and tri ed 10 play catch-up through the first tum. Bast, meanw h ile, was trying to get going, and fina lly blas ted past Parsons and Curry as they were caugh t up in their own du el. Ochoa had sett led in to th e gr oov e as Bast tried to close in . Whe n th e checkered came out, i t was Och oa leadi ng Bast acro ss th e finish line . Pete Marcoccia led for the first two laps of the Ha ndicap main before winner Bobb y Hedden bl asted past. Bob Collier sli pped into second , but coul d not get within striking range of Hedden. Jim Sisem ore spent the race in a crowd pleasing battle with Mike Parsons . As Hedden led Collier in the charge to the fin ish, Parsons and Sisemore crossed th e line together for a tie for third. This left Sisemor e leading Bast by eigh t po in ts with Ochoa and Curry trying to get closer in th e seas on points chase. It on ly too k Jess McKenna two weeks in Divison Two before wi nning his first m ain event after starting in Division Three last seaso n. It wasn 't easy, as McKenna led the first th ree laps, then Many Matt hews sn uck pas t for one la p befo re going too wi de. McKenn a gai ned the lead aga in as the whi le flag ca me out, the n held off a la te charge by second place finisher Ron Barrow for a narrow victory. Bennett bounces to Bounty Hunter Motocross win By Tom Prichard CHOWCHILLA, CA, AUG. 10 Pa t Ben nett topped yet another Bounty H un ter Race at the Chowchilla Fairgrounds. Ben nett scored in convincing fash ion, sta rti ng from th e 12th position o n the invert ed line. Pro.-Am night a t the fairgrounds allo wed th e top qua lifing amateu r riders L mak e th e o start of th e eveni ng' s feature event. Five nervous amateurs sat in th e first po si tion o n th e lin e, all kn ow ing th e fastest q ua lifiers were the pros sitting beh in d them . When the flag dropped, Ryan Menk e took conuol of the lead. When lap ond had been com pleted , Men ke was in first, Ray McLaugh lin was in second, and Jon Nelson and Bennett had worked u p from 11th and 12th to fill out the lOp fou r. On lap two, Men ke had bobbled, allowing Nelson to move in to firs t, and Bennett to seco nd. For five laps. Nelson and Ben ne tt circled the track separated by no mor e than two b ik e len gth s. Com in g in to a tight switch bac k, Ben nett used a sma ll insi de jum p to pu ll clsoe to Nelson a nd on lap six , Benne tt stole the lead . Nelson's fron t wheel washed ou t an d he crashed. Sendelbach swift at LACR Night Motocross By Tony Alessi PALMDALE, CA, AUG. 9 Jim Sendelbach p ut in a pair of mong motos to score the overa ll victory in the Vet Pr o class during the California Racing Cl ub 's night motocross program held at ·Los Angeles County Raceway. Richard Bunch darted to the first -moto hole sho t in the combined Vet class a nd ope ned up a sma ll gap on Terry Ducker and Sendelbach. Sende lbach was quick to pass Ducker for second then set sai l for Bunch. Sendel bach seemed faster in the rougher sections, wh ile Bunch mad e up time do ubling two j umps that Sandelbach wasn 't. The two riders dIced it ou t in the remaining laps with Sendelbach passing Bun ch for the win . The second moto seemed to be a replay of the first with Bunch o ut front for most of the moto and Sendelba ch passing lat e in the race for the wi n. T erry Ducker rod e with the leaders ea rly in the race bu t faded 10 a distant th ird by the en d ·o f the molO. Bobby Kline raged war all night lon g in the 250cc Pro class with Bryan Nelso n . Kline led much of bot h molOS but couldn 't mat ch the pace or the persistence of Nel son, wh o sco red a pair of wins by passing Kli ne lat e in both motos. Rich Truchinski was fast bu t co u ldn 't stay with Nelson or Kline afte r the third lap of either molO. The Faulk ner family con tro lled the rruru ran ks all evening. Johner Fau lkner rode 10 a pair of runaway victories in th e Pee Wee class wh ile older sister Tanya mad e her debu t ride in th e 60cc class q uite memo rable with ba ck -to -b ack mo to wi ns .
