Norris wen t ou t in grand fashion . as he won hi s fina l ma i n event, and duri ng i ntermission, a checkered flag was presented to Norris wh ich had been signed by a ll of the racers. In the first hea t race , Norris sto le the h o lesho t and nev er lo o ked back. Ri ck y Henson, Sco tt McPherson and Jeff Wa tters, chased No rr is. He nson was unable to make a mo ve o n Norris and th e finish ing order rema ined th e same . H eat two was wi ld as Jeff Ru ssell go t an excellent sta rt w hile battling wit h R o d Reyn olds. The riders wen t wide in turns one and two, and Ryan Anderson shot under both of them to ta ke the lead . T wo la ps la ter, Ru ssell went down and restarted quickly, bu t there wasn 't enough time left. At the checkered flag it was An derson, Reynol ds and R ussell. In the ma in event, Norris p u ll ed th e ho leshot a nd led Henderso n , Anderson, Reyno lds, McPherson, R ussell and Waters through tu rn o ne. T h e lead group was bunched up when Anderson got completely sidewa ys co ming ou t of tum fo ur and cras hed. The race was red -flagged wh ile Anderson caugh t his breath. R ussell developed a problem that slowed him to the rear, while Anderson was busy trying to ge t by Je ff Watters 'an d the n McPherso n, w ho he chased for seven laps. II M ega Cycle Suzuki-backed Ran dy Chapman was running ho t at the Silver Sta te Raceway CMC Trans-Cal warm-up race, as he coo ked the com p<;titio n in the All Pro Cha llen ge class , while R Ichi e Thornwalds on survived a cou ple of cras hes to claim second overa ll. In moto one , Ch apman and John Sta rk set a quick pace as th ey pulled away from th e pack. T hor nw aldson went dow n o n lap o ne and set a hot pac e as lie moved back up through th e pack. By m id-m ote. Cha pma n had started to stretch away from Stark , and co ntin ued on to the win while Stark sett led for a respectable seco nd. R ichi e Thornwaldson had advanced 10 th ird by th e checkered and Rich Thornwaldson finis hed fourth. Mo to two started mu ch the same , with Richie T horn wa ldso n hot o n Sta rk 's heels in third. ' After a few laps, Sta rk and Richie Thornwaldson tan g led as they landed from a jump, and bot h went crash in g into th e sand. T hey both remou nted, but Stark's bike was a tad twisted, so he retired while R ichie T horn wa ldso n worked back to race-p ace. Ch apman stayed ou t front for th e rnoto and the overall win, as Rich ie Thornwaldson finished seco nd for seco nd overall . Tavin Weinrick ran awa y with bo th Vet Intermed iat e m oto s, whi le Larry Bro wn combined a pai r of seco nd s for second overall. Patton, Jr. A TIIENS, OH, AUG.10 Barr Raci ng's Mike Jones domin ated ro u nd two of th e 199 1 Action Spo rts Sum mer Tour Supercross Ser ies. J on es, from Export. Pen nsylvan ia , was unbeatable, as he won all four Pro clas s mOlOS. The Suzuki rider is now th e win ni nges t rid er in Acti on Sports' hi story . Wilh J on es ru n ning away wit h th e Pr o clsses, th e Amateur classes featured th e tou g-h est raci ng of the night, with man y local rider s doin g well. J on es, the ru nner-up in th e 1990 Eastern Region al 125cc Supereross Series , was held o rr by Ch uck Reed for two laps in th e 125cc Expert class. J on es event ually passed Reed by clearing the tripl e. Reed lost his conce ntration after the pass and Mike Mor l:an, the Plus 25 class wi n ner nearl y caug ht hi m . Reed regained hi s co mpo sure in tim e to hol d on to second and pull away 10 a safe distance. M O lO two was near ly a rerun of the first m ote . Jo nes ra n away from Reed and Mor gan. Morgan was the rid er o n the gas as he leaped into seco nd over the gr andstand do ub le jump. Befor e the first lap was o ver Morgan had the lead a nd was defini tely the fastest rid er in the class. T his year 's event req ui red th ree hea ts to be run wit h th e winners transferrin g to th e main even t. Two semi s were then run followed by a Last Ch an ce Qualifier. There were classes for all , in cluding a Pr o class, whe re riders wou ld co mpe te for an $800 p urse, and Stoc k and Modified Ama teur classe s as wel l. There was even a Pee Wee Exhi bitio n event. The track was a sca led-down su pe rcross co urse and included a wild set of staggered doubles. a bu s jump, two tab letop jumps and a trip le jump. T he pits even had a co ncessio n sta nd a nd V.J. P. sea ting area . T orkko , Bobb y Langin and Jimmy Lewis took wins in th e Pro heat races. Torkkoa nd La ng in were th e o nly riders clearing the staggered dou bles from the in side a nd qu ickl y pulled a way from the fiel d. La ngin began to close on Torkko whe n he crashed. " I washed o ut the front end, th en it too k about ei gh t kicks to restart and by then I was last," Langin exp lai ned. T orkko now enjoyed a big lead.
