Randy Tripleu passed six riders in eight laps
to ca p tu re th e 600cc Pr o-Am eve n t at th e fifth mil e Montgomery dirt ova l.

In accordance with Go p her Racing 's Pro Am sta rting p rocedur e. the professiona ls were
li ned up at the co rner (our exit, ab out 50 yards
beh ind the a ma teur field. Triplett jumped
Do ug Obert at the start, ca ug ht fourth-place
Mike T erho o n lap five, passed Marty Krenz
(or th ird o n lap six and blew by Norb Gregory
a nd Eri c Brou ch ard o n the next lap to wi n.
In th e combined 250cc DTX event , Gregory
led a procession o f Ro n Bystrom, Doug Obert,
Rob Red man n and Tim McBride for the firs t
five la ps. The only change in or der .ca rne o n
th e next to last lap wh en McBrid e got by
Redman n to fin ish fou rth.
The Begi nner cla ss was a six-lap parade
with Suzuki-mounted Bru ce Schiller leadin g
(rom flag to flag, wil e Charlie La n gland
cruised to a n easy win in th e Senio r Vinlage
even t aboard his ~ 5Oce Du cati. It was th e
secon d stra ig h t Mont gom ery win for
Langland.

Superbike class win, but it took h im (ive laps

Supe rbike d ivision. The 600cc Pr oductton
ra ce was red-fl agKed (o r a two-bike crash at
the sta rt-fi n ish fin e, but Ro bert i qu ickly
rega in ed the lead on th e restart a nd cruised
hom e fo r th e win . Rob er ti's best race may hav e
been his th ird pl ace in the 750cc Superbike
class o n a stock bi ke aga inst· a str ong field
o( modified machinery.
Zlock Racing 's fo ray into the world o( non Suzuki mo tor cycles paid o ff (or Pinkstaff ,
provid ing him a very (ast Kawasaki ZX7 and
a relatively easy win in 750cc Su perbi ke class.
Pinkstaff said , .. It 's ta ken us th ree races to
get everyth ing dialed in , but it wor ked very
well today."
Best two man race o ( the day was probably
between David Roo kaird and David Lanigan
in the 650cc Bat tle o ( The Twins . In both
seven lap hea ts, the wave start a nd m ix of
bikes saw them in to lap ped traHic by the
(ou rth la p . a nd th ei r private battle was
co mp lica ted by a host o ( slower riders to weave
through. Lanigan wo n the (irst hea t, barely,
and Rookaird won the second, barely, and the
overall.
