In the 125cc C class, Dave Huey took the ear ly lead in th e first rnoto, ahead of J ashua Ska ggs. ' Skaggs eventually passed H uey over th e fin ish line j ump, but both riders were un abl e to negotiat e the next tu m . Skaggs and Huey cra shed , handing the lead and event ual win ' to Jeff Uls ha ffer. In mot o two, Huey bl asted to th e front only 10 be passed by Ulshaffer shortly the rea fter. Once o ut in front, Uls haffer was untouchable, as he roo sted away for the mo to a nd o vera ll win. Munson aces Dealer's Challenge at SIR Motocross By Sh ell ey Ross SEATIll, WA, JULY 20-21 Dealers and rid ers from all over the Pacific Northwest turned out for thi s year s Dealer's Challe nge, at-Seaule Interna tio na l Raceway Motocross Track, with Jamie Munson holding all the aces in b oth th e 250 and Open Pro classes . 1 In hi s first 250cc Pro moto, Munson grabbed the holes ho t, with Scott St effy and J oe G reenwood bat tling for the second position. Munson set th e pace a nd after th e second lap had attained a comfortable lead. Mean wh ile, Steffy was experiencing bike tro ub les and had fallen ba ck to fifth , allowing Greenwood to ta ke ove r second with his brother Mike rounding out th e top three. Mu nson increased his lea d by 10 seconds to finish ahead of J De G reenwood, who took second followed close ly by Mike Greenwood in third. Mu nson 's nex t mo ta was th e Open Pro. Again he blasted ou t of th e gate to pull the ho leshot followed closely by Aaron Shardlema n. Mu nso n ma intained his lead u nt il the third la p, w he n Shardleman too k him out on the corner, befo re the set of triples. By the time Munson go t his bi ke restarted, he was in last positio n. He set ou t after the !,:,ck and within a half a lap had passed two riders an d was gai ning o n two mor e. He passed Peter T readwell and Brett Bierek in a corner, at the same time and was clos ing in on the leader Aaron Sha rdleman. By the fourth lap he was breathing down Shard leman's neck . Feeli ng th e heat, Shardlema n turned a nd saw Munson ri ght on his tail. Shardleman mu st have realized that stuffing Munson th e lap before was a mi stake, because Munson instead came up a longside Shardle ~ ma n a nd stayed with him going into th e corner, as if 10 cha llenge him. Shardleman slowed do wn further . Munson, however, was not u p for a rematch, so he roosted pa st h im an d went o n to fin ish first, well a head of Shardleman, who took second with Bierek bringing up third. Wi th Munson ha vin&: won hi s firs t two motos in eac h class, thiS appear ed to h av e set the pattern· fo r the rema ining motos. The rugged clay co ur se at Carlsbad can ha mmer a rider to a pulp even o n mo dern suspended bikes , but i t is especially difficult in the Vintage class, wh ere the bikes are at lea st 10 years ol d. Brown 's da y' quickly soured as his bike began to spu tte r o n th e first lap du e to ca rburetio n problem s wh ich lat er forced him to reti re. En gelhardt pressured Harker for a co up le o f laps befor e s to r m i ng into th e lead o n hi s Honda El sinor e. ' T he next rid er to ch a llenge H ark er for second wa s Lee H olth. H olth pa ssed Ha rker briefl y but wa s repassed a shorttim e later. At the .ch eckered it was Engel hardt by a bi g margin over H arker , Holth and Guy Ward. Holth grabbed a bi g ho leshot at the start of rnot o two with En gl ehardt right on hi s tail. Ward was o n ly a short distance ,back o n h is Bu ltaco Pursang. Ward pounded the Bu ltaco, but it was no match for Englehard t's Ho nda as h e shot by for good. En gl ehardt took the moto win followed by Holth and Ward. "I'd like to tha nk San Diego Cycle Supply," said Englehardt, "without them I wou ldn 't be able to k~p this thing tog ether ."
