Parker followed defend ing 250cc World Champion Alessandro Puzar to the fin ish li ne in th e first mo to,. bu t in mo to two Parker went to th e fro n t early and stayed there to take the win and stretch his points lead over P uzar from on e to nin e po ints. Puzar finished sixth in the second rnoto, and his points for the day moved h im to second in th e standings past Marn iqc Bervoets, who dro pped back a position in the titl e chase d ue to an ankle injury suffered in Sa turday's sloppy practice. T he san dy Man to va supercross-style circu i t was still wet on race day, as riders su nk in the sand upon landin g fro m many of the 22 j umps on the course. Puzar ju mped ahead of compatriot Mich ele Fan ton, Axel Hol voet an d Parker at the start of the first 40-minu te plus two- lap mo to. Parker, who ha ils fro m Louisia na but now lives in Ital y, passed H olvoet for third on la p four and bega n to move in on Fanton, wh o had faded 10 seconds behind Puzar. It was n ' t until the ha lfway point tha t Parker made his move by Fanton into second, and then he cou ld only wa tch Puzar pull away to the win , nearl y 20 seconds ahead of th e American. Dave Str ijbos had started n inth , but he charged th ro ugho u t the race to climb into his th ird -pl ace finishi ng po sitio n three la ps from the finish . Pekk a Vehkon en was next across the finis h line, followed by Edwin Evert sen. Fanton faded ou t of the to p 15. Parker charged into the lead at th e start of mo to two an d the pack could on ly chase h im to th e finish lin e. Rob Herr ing passed Holvoet for second on lap two and moved in on Parker's tai l, bu t was unable to find a way past. Puzar had started seven th bu t was soon through to fourth, bu t a fall cost h im several seconds. It also cost him hi s clutch lever which slowed h im considerably in the deeply-rutted corners, and T he could do no better than sixth at the fin ish . H erring stayed in secon d, bu t after running out of fuel on th e final lap of moto one while ru nni ng eig ht h he made a pl anned gas stop after 30 mi nutes. Holvoet and Mike H eal ey were already catc hing h im , and shortl y after ' hi s pit sto p Herr in g came u p short o n a tabletop j um p and th e pain from the landin g force d h im to back off the pace. Healey, who crashed wh ile running eighth in moto one, got by H olvoet, but th ere was no catch ing Parker as the for mer 125cc World Ch ampion romped home with the win. World Championship 125(( MX Series: Round 3 Schmit steamrolls Dutch GP MARKELLO.HOLLAND,MAY I2 efending 125cc World Champion Donny Schmit scored his th ird overall victory in as many GPs wh en he dominated bo th motes of the D Dutch 125cc G P in northern H oll and. T he Bloomington, Minneso ta, native has won four of the six rn otos run thi s season and hol ds a commandi ng lead o ver Stefa n Everts, who fin ished second overall, in the sta nd ings, 11294. Schm it led all but one lap during th e afternoon , as he romped ho me the wi nner in mo to o ne ahead of Everts , Marcel Van Drunen , Yves Demaria. Ped ro Tragter and Am erican Bob Moor e. T ragter should have finishe d third, but fearing a noise test for being in th e. top th ree he slowed wh en he saw the checkered flag and allowed Van Drunen to pass. Demaria was a bike length beh in d Van Drunen and also scooted past. Wh a t Tragter didn't realize was that th e noise test after each moto had been elimina ted several years ago an d the test is on ly taken after the second mo to. Moore was the on ly rider to get in fro nt of Schmit all day as he beat his compatriot out of the starting gate in mato two, but Schmit q uickly passed hi m and rode on to another win . Moore battled wi th Everts over second for eigh t la ps before the Belgian go t by.
