Late news from Australian Motorcycle News, however, says that Magee has flown to Japan to finalize arrangements with Yamaha in a deal that will see him ride a YZRSoo in the All-Japan 500cc Championship as well as selected GPs. The deal may also see him compete on a Yamaha YVF750in theSuzuka8-Hour endurance race in Japan. Brazilian road racer Alexandre Barros crashed his factory Cagiva during practice for the German GP at Hocken heim on May 26 and dislocated a bon e in his wrist. Barros will undergo surgery and may be out of action for as long as three months. Frenchman Jean-Philippe Ruggia was another pre-German GP crasher. The Sonauto Yamaha rider broke his collarbone in practice, but is expected to return for the next GP in Austria on June 9. The Yu go slavian Grand Prix has been canceled because of political unrest in that country, and will be replaced by a GP in Jarama, Spain. on June 16. The future of the Brazilian round of the World Championship Road Race Series is also in doubt. Texan Ke vin Schwantz is scheduled to inspect the Brazilian circuit to see if the requested track improvements have been made. With riders competing in the road race G Ps able to throw out the ir w orst two scores in 1991 , the championship may get tight in the final rounds. .If the two lowest scores were dropped at this point in the season, Michael Doohan would lead Wayne Rainey by only two points, 74-72, in the 500cc World Championship with Kevin Schwantz holding third with 66 points. The 250cc point standings would see Luca Cadalora leading Helmut Bradl , 80-74, with Carlos Cardus third with 62 points. May 21, rejected a proposal by Assemblywoman ·Carol Bentley (D-EI Cajon) and Governor Pete Wilson to establish a new off-road riding area at Otay Mesa in San Diego County, and instead approved a transfer of between $8 and $10 million of Green Sticker Fund money to the General Fund. Despite vigorous opposition from the governor's office, the Department of Parks and Recreation, Assembl ywoman Bentley and the Off-Road Vehicle Legislative Coalition , the Assembly budget committee voted 4-to-l to transfer th e money with no apparent pa yback provisions. The only vote in su pport of the OHV Park and keeping the money in the OHV Fund 'came from longtime off-reader ally Assemblyman Pat Nolan (RGl endale). Leading the arguments in favor of killing th e park and stealing the mon ey· were Assemblymen Gerald Felando (R-San Pedro), Richard Polanco (DLos Angeles), Jack O'Connell (D-Santa Barbara) and Jim Costa (D-Fresno). Unl ess off-roaders act quickly, the Senate is likely to take similar action before the end of May. Off-roaders are urged to write to Senators Dan McCorquodale (D-Santa Clara, Don Rogers (R-Bakersfield) and Dan Boatwirghtr (D-Concord) and ask them to .leave the Green Sticker Fund alone. Letters should be sent to senators at the State Capitol, Sacramento, CA 95814. If successful, ·this will be the fourth- time tha t OHV funds have been ripped off for other than OHV uses. WERA has announced that beginning with th e fourth round of the WERA Pro Series on June 23 at Seattle International Raceway in Washington, the Formula Two races will be run under a two-race format. Points will be awarded for each race with th e event win awarded to the rider accumulating the most points over the two races wi th the second race counting as a tie breaker. The Minnesota rider returned to his Belgian base the following day and is expected to be out of action for three to four weeks. After dominating the first three rounds of the World Championship 125cc MX Series and finishing second in the first moto in Hungary, Schmit was dropped to second in the point standings by Stefan Everts (Suz), who won both mOlOS. American Bob Moore (KTM) finished second overall and South African Greg Albertyn (Hon) was third. American Willie Surratt (Hon) posted 7-12 moto finishes.
