Austi n scored the win in th e second Plus 25 Expert rnot o, topping Philip Carlin and G reg Nelson for th e overa ll win. Ron Faisst easily won both Su per Min i motos, '4'hile David and Michael Umhoeffer argued. over the ru nner up position . Michael gOI th e better start and fended off hi s brother Da vid for second place in the fir st moto. Zegi n Braun fin ished fourth in th e first moto . Speedway USA win sweet for Lucero By Scott Dalo isio VICfORVCLLE, CA, MAY 4 Two-t i me California State Speedway Champion Steve L ucero scored a sweet victorywhen he defeated the entire R ussell Racing First Division team to win the Scratch main at Speedway USA. Over th e wi n ter. Lucero was set to join Mike Faria, Josh Larsen and Gary Hicks on R ussell Racing. However , he was dr o p ped from the squad befor e he made a start for th em and wh en th e ma in carne to th e line•.Lucero was o n a missio n. Co m ing from the po le. he got a perfect start and led National Cha mpion Faria into th e first tu rn . H icks manned the third spot with La rsen back in fou rth. Riding o ut in the dirt, H ick s go t past Faria for second as th ey went in to turn three the firs t lim e, th en stayed wide a nd tried to race ar ound th e o ut side of lead er Lu cero at the end 01 the first circuit. Lucero hel d him 011 into turn o ne and then H icks ra n into a pro blem when Fari a bobbl ed. Wh en Faria stra ig htened o ut. he nearl y took OUI Hicks. H icks took eva si ve ac tio n a n d quick l y recovered while Faria dropped a ll th e wa y 10 la st. . Venegas gave up second wh en he tagged Fu rman 's rear tire and nea rly new o ver th e bars early in the race. He made a miracul ou s recovery, but dropped all th e way to last.
