The course ' [ealured man y 75 mp h plus straigh ts and downhill sectio ns . a pair o f wa ter crossings and pans o[ the track reached [ar in the valley areas and mountains. The co urse incl uded th e trad itional MX track. a n d sm a ll er track co n nected to th e vast sectio ns o f th e pa rk. The two-day even t dr ew nearly 500 ride rs. Ziller ko p[ got Ihe ball roll ing in Ihe Exhibi tio n race, rid in g a factory four-stroke KTM. Ziuerkop[ rockeled a way to a Ihreeminute lead, bealin g Charlie Moris and Don Urbanek. both on 250cc machines. Ziuerkop[ was back to score the 250cc class victory after speed ing by early race leader ScOll Stems o n the o u trageous downhill sectio n. Ziuerko pf went o n to an ins urmounta ble lead by the end o f th e race as Du ane Summers and SCOll SIems rounded the lOp tbr ee. Perhaps th e most prestigIous event was the team race. which consisted o[ 16 different race clubs all [acing 0[( 1 delermine which club 0 has th e fast est ridCTS. Jeff Maas won the Shamrock GP learn race. The Sha m rock team or Robert Laughlin, Chris Radzi nski a nd Jel[ Maas led the way earl y on and it was suspected that due to the fact th at since the Sha m rock Team Race mem bers did not com pe te in the day's even t tha t they had the energy advantage. The Sha m rock learn smoked the rest ol the teams by more than thr ee minutes. When the dust settled the Shamrocks gave credit [or their victory io new member Radzinski, who has been an avid pro MX racer [or th e past three years and now races in the desert. Kenney Perry rode a very con servative race to top the 0-175cc class over Darr en Rivers and David Wen tz. Perry cam e under heavy attack [rom John Braasch earl y in the race. but Braasc h encountered numerous crashes which dropped him a lap down.
